Apple rather do it portless than using generic USB-C, fark EU.

yet they have products that uses USB-C rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Cause tablets and laptops need connectivity with peripherals and etc, but phones mostly using touchscreen and do most connectivity with cloud/Bluetooth.

The main usage of lightning port is earphone and charging, which Apple are happy to opt for wireless alternative and charge you more for that.

Finally the EU is telling Apple off.

The lightning port sucks compared to Type C. Apple kept for the Lightning port due to MFI licenses they sell to accessories makers for huge profits. If using Type C, they lose the accessories market.

Actually, physically Lightning port is more resilient (especially female) and smaller.

Type-C on the other hand some very tight some very loose. And the female connector can get damaged or stressed if you insert the male cable off-angle.

USB-C can't do charging and earphone?? Kek.

There is absolutely no innovation using lightning on phones. The only advantage of lightning is to use on laptop for external.GPU. But external GPUs are rarer than a Nokia 3310. Which basically renders it's only advantage pointless.

To Apple, Lightning’s main usage is charging and earphone, thus they don’t need to push for Type-C. Now that they’re pressured by EU, I can foresee they rather do away with the charging port all together and do everything purely wireless (like I said, Lightning’s earphone and charging usages can be replaced by wireless alternative).

And you had mistaken Lightning with Thunderbolt.

But I think USB c is cheaper as they are more mass produced. If spoilt, you just buy a new cable
*
What if it’s the female port which is damaged?

Like I said, female Lightning is very resilient, meanwhile some female USB-C can get damaged quite easily.

Honestly...I haven't break any ports other than ancient PCs serial COM port with male pins sticking out. Unless you are some Hulkzilla, it's impossiburubto break ports under normal usage.

I used to think like you, till I realise not everyone is as careful as me when using their devices.

Like I say, it's cheaper to replace even if the female port is damaged.

Why do you say lightning port is not so easy damaged?

If it's so bad, why Apple uses USB C for their other devices except iPhones?
*
Nope, most female ports are not cheap, especially some which directly soldered onto the mobo.

If you are Hulkzilla, lightning port is equally breakable. So no advantage.

The male might die, but the female is resilient.

And you have evidence lightning female port better than usb-c in breakable limits?
*
It’s basic physics, female lightning have more structural supports than female USB-C.

Type C need to buy quality cables and not those from RM 2 shops. Buy those with a proper resistor inside like Ugreen, Baseus and other branded ones.

Those problems u described were mostly due to bad quality cables. Lightning also has bad quality cables sold at RM 2 shops.

Even stock or branded aftermart chargers/cables also can have multiple fitness. Some very loose while some barely able to fit in (I even plugged some that’s so damn tight to the point the cable rather broke than get disconnected).

Meanwhile Lightning’s fitness are mostly standardised as they all using Apple provided connectors or same mold.

again, all those are soft specifications.

Nobody denying that type-C is more superior in terms of charging speed and connectivity.

But my point is that doesn’t mean type-C is physically better than lightning.

Lightning win over Type-C at physical level
- smaller
- easier to plug in
- the female is more robust (don’t have stress point like type-C did and the cable is directly supported by the phone metal case), also the male is more standardised in size.

I have seen more breaks in iPhone cables than android ones. Just sayin'

I know, the wire of the stock cable itself tend to disintegrate after (not so) long term use.

But again I’m talking about the male and female connector here, of which Lightning is definitely excel at.

being an AAPL shareholder myself i also not amused by the obsession Apple has over the lightning port for so many years

they probably do it to ensure the adoption of iCloud can only go up, users would just fedup with the turtle cable transfer speed hence just leave everything up to cloud
*
And how is it a bad things?

iOS is build around cloud.

Back then ppl also mocked iOS' bluetooth can't do files transfer. But now 10 years passed, Apple proved that they did nothing wrong back then.
