Dear All,

I would really2 appreciate if any of you can help me understand the working culture in HSBC Global Transformation Center.

Was thinking to apply their Regional Business Analyst role, .. seems like super eager for people now.

From their job descriptions, they are hiring someone who can speak/write Mandarin and Cantonese language as the role will be working on projects for China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

since this query has been raised for over 10 days ago, just hope that my experience still valid to you, and others who wants to join.

I would say management in this team works more like a HR dept that provides project team resources (PM/BA/testers) to business that needs project team to run their projects, other than that, nothing much, you are very much an individual contributor without much micro managing from this dept management, could be good or bad for you, depending on what you want.

You report directly to the management/business that owns the project. And be prepared to handle multiple projects and multiple roles based on the company's direction now. Oh, and lots of documentations regardless of what they talking about having agile mindset or not.

I am also a Business Analyst, in IT field. Got offered to interview with HSBC through headhunter. Previously interviewed with them once (through Capco) and got the job, but I turned it down.. as I don't want to go through Capco.

Heard their project mostly deal with HK/Taiwan/China.. thus the requirement for Cantonese/Chinese speaking.. and you may have to work according to the country's holiday schedule

Also more elaboration on the culture will be extremely helpful. Many thanks!

To be honest, it just depends on the projects that require you, there are a lot of those projects where the main market speaks Chinese/Cantonese or require reading Chinese Material - but the main calls/work discussions or documentations for Transformation are conducted in English as you'd still have to deal with a lot of non-English speaking teams. In terms of markets, you could be serving Australia, SG, Philippines or Multi-markets - those wouldn't really require Mandarin/Cantonese - except maybe to just let certain stakeholders feel more at ease. The culture though is very project dependent, as you'd mostly be dealing with project team and stakeholders more than your local colleagues. And each project is very different - some might be relaxed, others might be very demanding. And the standards and efforts they go through to try and make you happy at the workplace is pretty good too, especially at the new office.

If you're under a contractor like Capco, you don't really need to follow the country's holidays. Some stakeholders might request, but it's up to you to decide. HSBC's own staff though, they are encouraged to follow but they have a bigger reserve of leaves to use flexibly.
