Guys.

My contractor say I can make plaster ceiling directly under my ceiling, screw the board under my ceiling directly and plaster it.

Should I do this way? is it good practice?

Common practice. Don't need to remove the old ceiling.
Imagine the dirt and dust that will fall out if you removed the old ceiling...

1. Ease of installation.

2. Slightly lower ceiling height.

3. Any roof or piping leak will not be noticeable immediately.

Hi, can directly screw under the wood beam? instead of adding new steel. My contract idea is to do like this.

If current wood beam strong probably can do it. But my case they still add steel, not really thick but can hold the plaster.

That was asbestos sheet in the photo. Common practice, as no need to spend extra money for removal, clean up, and steel frame. Just directly screw on the existing beam/lease.

Any new steel will be screwed to the beam ... so no different screwing the plaster to the beam.

Unless you want specifically screwing the plaster to the steel, then the ceiling height will be another 1 foot lower. Then there will be another vacuum space between the new plaster and the old ceiling.

Double layer ceiling will be have better insulation from roof heat.

Not sure of current pricing.

In another property which I bought subsale, the previous owner did a double layer ceiling. If you have a high ceiling, lowering it is good as it can cool the place quicker if you have an AC.

Will try to snap a photo if I am there this week.
