Test drove the hybrid version this morning. Is it just me or anyone here thinks either the engine or CVT is a bit loud during highway cruising? The humming of the inverter during start-up is a bit annoying to be honest. The SA said the petrol version is a lot more smoother and responsive compared to to the hybrid version.

I posted this few pages back when I test drove both Corolla Cross hybrid and petrol versions sometime last year. Short test drive, spending about 10 minutes for each vehicle. To me, it's only the engine sound in the hybrid that's loud and weird when compared to petrol version during hard acceleration. The sound of the engine (or CVT I'm not sure) in the hybrid has a different tone in comparison to the petrol. It's a high pitch kind of squealing whereas with the petrol version it's the normal growling sound from the engine as with any vehicles with NA engines.

Acceleration with petrol version feels more powerful than the hybrid which feels more lethargic in comparison during hard acceleration,  with the hybrid introducing a louder and different tone sound when compared to quieter and normal engine sound with NA version. In summary, if you drive normally and want fuel saving, get the hybrid. If you want a more powerful acceleration and occasionally drive faster or love speed, or you want quieter engine sound, the petrol version will be more suitable than the hybrid.

I thought it's the other way round, hybrid more power than the petrol, coz it has the double mechanism to push the car forward. Not sure what I understand is correct

In toyota with their planetary gear setup with combined power output from motor and engine, I am unsure how to differentiate when motorised or engine comes in at times.

Wife complain why so expensive, I look at the maintenance cost list, dunno how to explain, looks confusing to me.
