Hi people. My father was recently diagnosed and found he was having prostrate cancer. Stage 4. Though, till today, he never had any pain, nothing at all. He is old 67, but he strong, as mybe 50 looking still. Never smoked, drink, ate healthy. The only problem was,,, he was always worried, abt me not able to get job(not really but something like this that he won't understand much, what i'm looking for). Thus, i can see he is unsettled and i'm not really going to stretch it more.
Back to health issue, people around me isn't being clear but i need to know,
Would stage 4 means, he is already on timer? So, i can focus only on making sure he is happy and enjoying it(though im not sure how im going to pull it if knwing that he won't stay long)
OR, could it be fought? I had a family doc, that,, seems to hide smthing, but,, I just wanted to know, how to deal?
Focus a lot on treatment and medication? or more on making sure he is enjoying it? like send him for vacation and stuff like that.
I don't know, he is still looking normal,, no pain, health,, physically sound,, but,,, all of suddent, this.
Would the sugery make his general health deteriorate a lot?
*Just hit me with truth, if it is even possible to fight cancer ?!

QUOTE(zero5177 @ Mar 14 2022, 05:27 PM) I'm not sure how to help you from here, I had relative where they are not aware of anything, everyday look the same, no pain doing everyday's chores and just suddenly one day fell ill and diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. from there onward her situation just get worse and occasionally look like recovered a little when doctor change treatment but in the end she is on timer and left. Normally stage 4 is on timer and too late already, appreciate time you can be with him and he may suddenly fell ill and will be spending time on bed till time comes. if have options can try second opinion from other hospital? Because not sure is just suspect or really diagnosed with cancer, also how did he end up getting diagnosed? it doesn't happen overnight without any symptoms right? No symptoms or whatso ever. Even now. The reason he went for testing was, Insurance policy got lapsed, to resume that, need to do medical checkup. That when we found about the cancer. Its all too sudden for me.

QUOTE(Joe1997 @ Mar 14 2022, 05:57 PM) Hey, sorry to hear on your the bad news that hit on your family. My late mum had the same case last year but she lost the battle. Just sharing from my experience, doctor knows the best. If you think the doctor is hiding something, try seek their opinion when your dad is not around. Probably they are hiding from the patient not knowing how to break the news, or try get all the info you have with medical report etc and get second opinion from diff doctor. Stage 4 doesn't mean on timer. My teacher and my aunt both has stage 4 colon cancer but they survived. Disclaimer: im not from medical-background, but as far as I know, stage 4 means the cancer has spread to different part of the body. As long as it doesn't affect the vital organ, I believe there is still hope. You know your family best. Sometimes, too positive and denying all the bad news can be toxic. Try get doctor's advice, do what you can. *touchwood if doctor said there is little to no choice, then please resort to tender loving care. Thanks, at least helped me to sleep tonight. Meeting specialist tomorrow. But i won't be in denial either.
