Depends on the fibre cabinet in each area.
Need to upgrade the equipment on the cabinet to support speeds above 1Gbps.

I think the 2gbps plan 99% of chance will be 2 x 1gbps line...
I dont think TM is going to provide 2.5gbps ethernet port btu and router..
So it must be like singapore 2gbps plan,as 2 x 1gbps port...

I think lower price will be better for 800mbps plan user,since higher speed not really help anymore... 1gbps plan most of the time only can hit 900+ mbps only...

Already set for 2Gbps. Got RB5009 with 2.5 and 10 Gbps ports. Just ordered Wifi 6 AP with 2.5 Gbps port. PC also 2.5Gbps ethernet already. Macmini long time had 10Gbps. Now need to see TM price first.

Yup and added 10G via the SFP+.

As mentioned by go626201, hAP ax3. I think newer wifi routers from Asus, TPLink, etc... also have 2.5Gbps or faster.

95% chance the pppoe still got. TM just dont really want people to replace it,as there will be alot of unnecessary issue may happens. They might still allow people to use custom device,as some people really have the needs. Even they said not allow,it will be multiple way to use custom device.
The new device actually will resolve alot of current given crap wifi router issue. So most people who having the new router will suddenly having less issue on their unifi usage.
(The new device just certified by Wi-Fi Alliance days ago - Date of Certification April 7, 2023)

And i can see near future TM will just give the new type of BTU to all new user or current user replacement device. old BTU might not be given few year later.

sure! what I know so far, TM still keep using GPON instead of XG/50PON,

that's mean it's safe to use PON Stick SFP, plug it on SFP+ 2.5Gb (2500base-X/HiSGMII) like RB5009

I can sure with you can get 2Gbps just we tested last year,

being on GPON, you have to fight the bandwidth among others user that happens use same fiber as you.

in peak hours, 1Gbps is most...

for me, I just take 1Gbps because it has 500Mbps upload. 2:1 ratio is just nice to have, pricing is not nice 🤣

(My guess)the new onr just replace that the normal router,so the onr might just have 2 authentication,
1. fibre optic ploam number and modem information
2. pppoe authentication, so the pppoe id already set as 2gbps down and 1up
and so all 4 lan port on that each port can run 1gbps and total is 2gbps to internet,
and within the lan network,4port are in the same network,mean port 1 device and port 234 is accessible with each other.(as a switch)

I think they still give you ONR, maybe do Bridge Mode

if unifi could reach 2gbps at onu/onr with a single pppoe, there is no reason why unifi wont get a onu/onr with 2.5gbps port to offer a real single 2gbps package, instead of 2x1gbps.

I think it is because the cost for 2.5gbps ONR is higher,and also they might not really want people to push 2gbps at all. since 99% people does not have the ability to hit concurrent 2gbps for normal usage(except speedtest).Older PC not supported 2.5G port.
From what i saw from China website,it might cost few hundred per unit(decent quality),so maybe find a lower grade compatible ONR also not cheap.
China 2.5G ONR just get in market about 1-2years only.

And second TM find Dlink to produce this new ONR which maybe having a lower reasonable production cost to provide 1/2gbps service.

And also TM give this new ONR,better than not giving a new one.
Since this one can support wifi,which mean you cant use more than 1gbps on LAN,but you can hit more than 1gbps if you have a good device that have better wifi receiver.
