Hello, I just went to a motorshop look for a nice sport rims. I'm asking the cheapest sport rims, and he said the cheapest is RM170 a pair. Also for a tubeless tyres, Aero Sport brand, it would cost RM65. Is the price ok? Should I go for it? smile.gif

what bike? by law, the mechanic need to quote you price first after first inspection to see roughly what need to change. If anything broken, count separately. I'd say around 200++.

Thanks for reply. My bike is yamaha ss2, what about normal maintainance service? I'm thinking to repaint my bike as well, how much would it cost?

ss2, nice... what's your mileage now?
If service change engine oil, clean carburator and air filter should be between 20-40, depends on how much is the engine oil.

Last time I full service an RGV (similar to SS2 as they are 2 stroke), cost me 200, with cleaning block piston and some parts changed because of wearout.

Painting a bike I have no experience.
*
My mileage is around 34500km, normally I just change my bike's engine oil. And how to reduce smokes? This only happen when I speed up.

Sounds like a nice SS2 you have there. Low mileage for an old bike.
My RGV almost hitting 30000 km soon. Time for full service like I mention above.

For your case, just change bike engine oil if just regular service, and do a full service at every 30000 km. If better, do a full service every 20000 km. Also, adding to my earlier reply, may also want to clean exhaust pipe. Easy job just take it off, and hammer knock until all carbon fall out from inside... If really bad case, need to use welding to potong exhaust liao. Normally, if you don't use cheap 2T, no need to potong exhaust.

To reduce smoke, look for cleaner burning 2T, with grade JASO FC, or better FD. I've manage to find Castrol Race 2T (Gold bottle) for around RM20 at Tesco. So far so good.
*
I think I would send my bike for full service, I can feel my sterling a bit shaking although I just change my rims to sport rims. Usually I use petronas 2T, it only cost RM10, will try Castrol 2T this time. Your advice is very helpful. Thanks. smile.gif

125Z is 2 stroke which is not good for long distance also not good for mother earth, that is why yamaha came out with 135LC to replace this version.

Over all both are good

White smoke or black smoke
Black means ur engine is having problem... burning black oil maybe
if white, u can't reduce smoke in 2 stroke bike.
If a 2 stroke has no white smoke means ur engine is not consuming 2 T oil
*
I see, the smokes come out from my bike's exhaust is white smokes.

Oh, petronas 2T is slightly more expensive compared to other brands of the same grade.
It has 5 grades, if not mistaken, from no label, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000... with the last being fully synthetic and most expensive. Last I remember about RM40 a liter. And it's hard to find. Not all petronas station carry it. The next best thing is BP fully synthetic. For SS2, need not go this far lah, just sharing what I know... haha

Some old skool bikes forums recommend buying marine engine 2T, like those graded API-3TCW (W for water cooled). These marine 2T burns almost smokeless and leave little to no residue inside engine chamber. I myself is not a believer in this one, so I'm sticking with JASO-FC/FD. Btw, the marine 2T goes by the gallon, and reasonably cheaper at about RM30-60...

As for your steering shaking, few questions:
1. Are you still using the original tyre from the old spoke rims with the tube? Maybe the tube got folded inside causing unbalance, or the tyre already de-formed during the change. What tyre you using.
2. Have you checked tyre pressure? Can do at petrol station... make sure within normal range 30-32 psi.
Yes, I think the petronas lubricant that I normally used is without label, it's the cheapest among all petronas 2T. Just now I went to BHP and bought a Jaso-FB 2T, cost me RM12.80, hopefully this lubricant can make my bike run smoother. Oh yeah, can I straightaway change 2T from mineral to fully synthetic oil?

For the questions you asked:
1. Yes, I'm using the old tyre (Dunlop) for my front rim, rear rim tyre already change to tubeless tyre.
2. Normally I pump my tyres, front 28psi, rear 30psi. If I fetch people, will pump front tyre 29psi, rear tyre 32psi.

yes you can use. not sure upgrade 2t will provide better runs. but ok la.
Check on ur new tyre. Is the tyre lumpy? normally is the tyre problem. as ur rim is new
*
I checked my front tyre, still in good condition. I try spin my front rim, seems like the rim has a bit bengkok. Will go back to that shop again this weekend.

QUOTE(alexei @ May 18, 2010, 8:57 pm)

lennz is right, you can just mix in the synthetic 2T to the mineral that you're already using.
Though I would recommend that you use until the 2T almost finish, then top up with the new one.
That BHP FB shouldn't be synthetic, if I'm not mistaken, but good enough for daily ride. You should notice the reduced white smoke. Given my experience with Shell FB 2T, the smoke is still quite noticeable.

Let me know how this new 2T turns out. Hope the additional 2ringgit is worth it.

As for your steering problem, there can be many possibilities. Suggest you bring back to the mechanic for check. smile.gif

Added on May 18, 2010, 9:00 pmOh, I used to ride my friends SS. It goes up to 130kmh no sweat. That was many years ago. I was riding my Yamaha sports since then.
*
Yeah, the BHP 2T that I bought is normal mineral oil, once the petronas 2T almost finish, will use this BHP 2T. I think my rims might be the problem. Emm... It looks like the 125zr sport rims, but is not branded.

Can anyone recommend me which motor SC give reasonable price for accessories and full service in PJ or Subang? I just went to a SC, according to the worker, their service charge for full service is RM30, not including change engine oil, change air filter and etc. According to him, if bike no problem, no part wear out, full service+service charge is around RM58 to RM60++. Is the price reasonable?

Emm... I have been using BHP Jaso-FB 2T for 1 week, I don't see any different. hmm.gif
As for the front rim, the mechanical said the same thing as you mentioned earlier, the tyre problem.
I will send my bike for full service this weekend. thumbup.gif

advice is to change whole set. better n safer.
ubuntu. do a test on ur rims n tyre.
double stand ur bike so the front wheel will raise.
then use ur finger or a stick to merely touch the side of rim
spin the wheel to see if the gap between ur finger or stick and rim changes.
If it changes ur rim is bengkok
if not change, Then try check with ur tyre.
*
I suspect my front rim bengkok as well. Will double check the front rim after work. Btw, it's the new sport rims, just found out the brand is "M-SEKI". Anyone heard of it?

ubuntu: thanks for the update, and i'm glad to hear that.
At least this confirms your 2T pump no problem, unlike my yamaha...

One of the reason I think, because when you top up the new 2T, there is still some of it along the 2T pipe to the pump... simple calculation would estimate ~50ml of it.

To burn off this amount of 2T needs ~10-15liters of petrol, roughly about 3 full tank... correct ah?
*
Yes, I've pump 3 full tank for 2 weeks. But one thing I observed is that, my bike consume this new 2T quite fast, I just added some on it.
Oh ya, just now I went to Caltex, surprisingly I saw their semi-synthetic 2T engine oil is quite cheap, Jaso FC and ISO EGC, 1 liter for RM17, of course I had bought one. smile.gif

wow! sounds like a good deal... let me check out caltex tomorrow.
Btw, have your engine rebore before? If you wanna know how to adjust 2T, let me know.
*
Nope, I didn't do any rebore. Emm... What do you think, should I adjust 2T? I never mod anything to my bike.
