Dear all,

I am not sure whether if I should post here but I would like to ask about motorbikes. Hope those that are experienced would be able to guide me.

First of all, I'm thinking of getting a 2nd hand bike due to budget constraint (Around ~RM1k +/-) but I'm a totally newbie in this bike's field. Can anyone advice me on what are the particular stuff to be considered when picking a second hand bike? Can give some recommendations on what type of bike as well? What are the forums or places to get reasonable 2nd hand bike?

Secondly, upon buying a bike, what are the procedure required to transfer the ownership? What are the required docs that I need to prepare as well? What other stuff do I need to do? Eg: Buying insurance?

Please kindly advice. Thank you very much.

What type of rider will you be? Take care of bike and learn all about it, or you want something hassle free?
Look at that budget, I will speak based on kapcai.
I'll like to be a normal rider. Actually I've just started to work and want to ride a bike to the place I work. So, the motor I would need to get shoulde be able to travel around at 40km per ride. At this moment, I'll prefer hassle free, so any suggestion and advice bro?

i travel around 35KM 1 trip to my office, so 1 day around 70Km. using the new modenas elegan 200. so far so good. but its a bit pricey. but i love the bike. no regrets getting it. good storage space and also great pick up. go up hill my speed won't drop not like riding kap cai last time.
I see, but I got quite limited budget at the moment so I don't think I gonna get a new bike though. Btw what is kap cai? haha

If you're going to depend on it, I suggest you save up and get a new bike that covers with warranty.

If really 2nd hand with that budget, cheap and reliable, in no particular order I list some personal recommendation:
- 4stroke: Honda EX5, Modenas Kriss; Yamaha SRV, SRE, SRX (These are the older Lagenda model).
- 2stroke: Yamaha Sports, SS; Suzuki RG, RGV.

Old bikes like these are prone to stop during heavy rain. I suggest you run the engine warm, and then splash the bike with running water from above like it is raining, so that you don't get stuck in one heavy rain some day with a bike that won't start.
I see, thanks for the information. By the way, I was thinking to get a EX5 2nd hand though but I'm not sure where are those shops that sells them. Do you know any shops which sells them nice and good? Or anyone selling bikes? What's 2 or 4 stokes engines between? haha..

If you are looking for a cheap 2nd bike, look for Suzukis. Example FC110, Smash 110, GSX110 for 4 stroke. Suzukis always have lower resale value but the bike is reliable, cheap to run with low Fuel Consumption.

4 stroke for the totally new guys are those without having to put 2 stroke oil. Just 4 stroke engine oil for maintenance. 2 strokes are the smoky louder ones on the road.

Thats said, 2nd hand 2stroke bikes also can buy for your budget like the Suzuki RC100, Honda Hurricane or Yamaha Sports.

What you need to do before you buy your bike? You can an experienced friend to check out the bike for you, test the engine sound, if it is too noisy and rattling, don't buy it.
Thanks for the information. But do you know where can I find them? Eg: Which website or which shop that is reliable that sells them?

Comparing 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine bikes, is 4 stroke cheaper or 2 stroke cheaper although I prefer quiet bikes.

cheap fuel,and cheap maintenance also

Where are you from? If Pj area, I recommend Chia Motors Bandar Sunway. (not seapark branch).

Look for the specky boss Ah Wai. Say Jonathan GPZ recommend you. He is a nice chap, good quality of work done and he never keeps a samurai sword ready. (if you know what i mean).

If you are in JB, go to Singdeca Motors, Jln Tebrau, opposite of the stadium, before Citibank. Look for Raymond Choo the boss. He is by far the best motorcycle shop owner I have ever seen. Honest and reasonable price. Good quality service also.

Better take 4 stroke, especially you are new to bikes. Lest you forget to add 2 stroke oil, you might risk seizing your bike up. Also like I said 2 strokes are more noisy and smoky....

4 stroke just maintain the engine oil when doing normal service, 2 stroke need to clean exhaust, clean carbon deposits etc.....
thanks bro, but do you have the Ah Wai's contact number or ways to contact him so I can ask him through the phone about bikes 1st? but do you think he sell bikes at my budget for 2nd hand bike?

I still suggest 2 stroke bikes since he travel 70km a day.

If I were you, I'd go for an Yamaha SS (110cc), or Suzuki RG/RGV (110cc/120cc).
mmm...actually i dont really know bout bikes..will further study about it on 2 strokes and 4 strokes bike biggrin.gif

Briefly Guide if u want to choose your bike

for long travelling,
relaibilty decrease from
1) DOCH>SOCH
-DOCH can maintain top speed while crusing but low pick up/power
2) Cooler>Non- cooler
-with cooler engine produce less heat+save fuel
3) 4 stroke> 2 stroke
-4 stroke mostly save fuel and long lasting

Fc
Carburetor>Fuel injection(FI)

Price
1)FI>Carb
2)4 stroke> 2 stroke
3)DOCH>SOCH
4)With cooler>non cooler

I hope this helping some people here
Don't really understand bout it but I'll try to take note of it biggrin.gif..by the way anyone knows what are the key things that need to ask or check when purchasing a 2nd hand bike either from a shop or a private seller? Mind to share? smile.gif
