Hello,
Looking for recommendation for a competent, reliable lawyer in Klang Valley to do S&P because I'm selling a property. Not too small practice because my parents had experience where lawyer ran away with money. Also prefer someone who is open to negotiation on fees. Feel free to PM if you prefer.
My property agent recommended my a lawyer that he always use. However because they have a close relationship, should I be worried the lawyer won't act in my best interest? Quite sure the buyer is using a different lawyer.
By the way what is the recourse if lawyer runs away with money? I assume it's a lot of hassle to recover? Is it from the Bar Council insurance? I know a lawyer that is very good but his firm is so small so a bit worried.

As long as the lawyer is still registered under the Bar Council there is little to worry about as whichever lawyer you engage is suppose to protect your interest as the seller since you are the one paying him, not the agent, not the buyer.

If one partner cheats - you can go after the others.

You want to be safe, dont nego on fees.
Use well known legal firm.
The three largest law firms in Malaysia continue to be Zaid Ibrahim & Co, Skrine, and Shearn Delamore & Co.
Legal fees are fixed. They cant charge you more.
Those that gives discounts are higher risk unless you know them personally, otherwise avoid.

Not true, there are unscrupulous and incompetent lawyers out there. Just google.

Well your initial post mentioned that you know a lawyer that is very good, just that it's a small firm. How do you know he is good? If you are sure he is good, and he is really a registered lawyer, why still hesitant? Because you don't think he is really good after all?

I know a lawyer that is very good but his firm is so small so a bit worried. Just curious. What happened after that? What action did your parents take? Did your parents manage to get back the money? Small firm is actually ok. My usual go to lawyer is also a small firm - better service coz deal with the lawyer directly. Big firm u deal with the secretary only
