I like diesels but the one diesel I won’t buy is a Mazda 2.2d, cylinder head prone to warping, the intercooler prone to failure as well if you have a heavy right foot.

Finally one thing to take into account is this one requires B7 E5 diesel else it becomes prone to soot buildup and unlike most diesels Mazda diesels sold here has a DPF and when you have a DPF you must operate and drive it at least 1-2 hours at peak torque output so it can heat up enough to burn away the soot else hello clogged dpf.

Currently the best sub rm250k SUV that you can have with a diesel engine is a Hyundai Santa Fe.

Hyundai-KiA 2.2d and 2.0d engines are very reliable diese1 engines, easily will cover 300k miles problem free.

Yes I believe so, since i used to rent a Starex royale few times years ago, it is a very responsive engine though..
the issue with KIA/Hyundai for me is more on the finishing Quality,.. i have surveying tengok-tengok on New model Kia Carnival
last few month at their Sales Gallery.. what can i say despite a nice design and hi tech engine, the finishing of the
interior, the artificial leather seats, a hard plastic panel everywhere for me is just.. LAME shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

Mazda diesels must be driven like a diesel and as if fuel is very expensive. Gentle peddle operations and if it’s a manual very quick upshift. Else it puts stress on the engine.

That’s what a Mazda2 driver in Thailand told me, said it’s not the same as other diesels.

I own 2 KA4 Carnivals and 2 YP Carnivals both 11 seater versions. Using for commercial purposes.

Mechanically a great MPV but yes the interior isn’t the nicest, fit and finish can’t compare against the 2 VW Sharans that are now 9 years old. However it isn’t to the point where it’s bad to the point it affects it’s usability.

KA4 is a fantastic vehicle for the family but I probably wouldn’t want one as a daily driver, just too big and bulky a vehicle and just not feasible to be used in some urban setting.

Your kiddo never tell you while in the car “Daddy faster faster that uncle in Alphard trying to overtake.” ?
