I want to upgrade my laptop's RAM and was given the type of RAM it is compatible with. Is it cheaper for me to buy it online and have ot installed in a shop rather than both buying it and installing it from the computer store. Asking because obviously I'm too scared of doing it myself and brickong my laptop.

Check if your laptop RAM is upgradeable or not first.
Upgrading outside is certainly cheaper.

If u order online, make sure it is from a reputable seller. There are many selling used or faulty RAM sticks.
Anyhow, as long u know how to open the access port covers or disassemble the laptop, it is easy to upgrade the RAM.
Do Google for the service manual for your laptop first. Study it and then make the order. Wear a anti-static glove if u worried killing the sensitive chips on the motherboard.
