i getting new ride so after using few brand of ceramic coating on my previous ride, i just wondering whether i, now, should go for ppf instead of coating. i heard nowadays got graphene coating which gives 10H protection ( for what ever that it means) i previously use 7H coating but washing swirl can still be seen.

the only concern for me on ppf is after 7 yrs under hot sun, will it start to break and what happen to the paint start to break means need to repaint the car.

of course i dont keep car up to 7 years but sell value will definitely dropped.

any one have experience on ppf after 7 years?

coating no matter how many H, it wont be able to resist stone chip and deliberate scratching, swirl mark still will occur if you use bad quality microfiber cloth or dirt trap in your wiping cloth during car wash

and you have to use pH neutral shampoo to wash your car, strong acid like those car wash at the road side will eat away the coating sooner

coating is just making your car paint look shiny and the hydrophobic effect make your car wash easier since dirt doesn't trap easily on the paint

ppf is can protect against stone chip, but it doesn't last forever, some of the ppf will become yellowish or blurry after some time or even tear off especially at the bonnet

if you dont keep the car for more than 7 years, why not just respray after few years? it should be around RM 400-500 for spraying one panel,

unless your paint is very special paint that is difficult to replicate like mazda soul red, i dont see ppf is worth the investment

PPF is the best and worth the money

Coating is almost useless unless you know how to care for it .... most people coat their cars and then go outside anyhow wash the car.

When the coating effect lost because of in-compatible or very strong car wash shampoo then they blame or say it is lousy

Nowadays there is a coating that heals itself but cost more than oracal PPF ( standard level of PPF brand )... But does not even protect from hard scratches... so i do not see a reason why waste on it doh.gif

I'd say just do proper maintenance of the paint eith regular washes and like once every quarter do detailing.

IMHO coating is a bunch of BS. PPF may offer some protection from stone chips but can it really withstand sharp stones at highway speeds, I am honestly skeptical, plus the color will be slightly different after covered by ppf. If your eyes not so OCD then maybe ok but for me I don't like that. I'd just live with whatever stone chips, take it as battle scars! If don't want any single damage on paint then just don't use the car! Lol

Cut short, if lazy to do regular maintenance on the vehicle, better don't apply no matter is PPF or coating. It will be a waist of money and time.

just get a cheap coating as there's not much benefit over the expensive ones with exaggerated claims. having coating does have some sort of protection for the paint for example : bird shits etc, water marks, oxidization of paint from under the sun for long periods. it is also heaps easier to wash and dry your car with coating. Think of coating as like a long lasting wax/sealant for your paint. it will not prevent scratches

PPF is only useful for the front of the car where there will be lots of stone chips. usually full front PPF costs 2-3k. Full car costs upwards of 10-15k which is not worth it as you can do a full paint job for less than that

thanks guys, for the tthought
i do cleaning my ride on my own, once a while i pass my own meguire to the car wash shop as getting lazy.
frankly last car coat lasted 5 years until i sold them.

just a thought what i should do next for my next ride while waiting it to be clear from factory.

i would still go for coating as the hydrophobic effect thing. thought of trying ppf but scared of yellowish ness especially my car all white.

Do both. PPF for protection and coating on top for looks and ease of cleaning.

Did it for previous (installed for 5 years before we sold it) and current car driven by the wife. Compared to my (non ppf / coated only) car peppered with stone chips, hers look pristine. Especially the front bumper.

We installed the ppf for the front portion only (bumper, hood, fender), can’t tell it’s even on there.

I have full car Xpel on a white car. Color different is not an issue. The edge line dirt stain is inevitable, see if that annoys you. They try to fold in the edge as much as possible, some places required part removal, and I don't want that.

At perpendicular parking, sometimes ladies' handbag the metal chain, metal clasp will scratch the side.

Some people just don't f care, drag and knock their belongings on people's car.

Some people also put their stuffs on people's car instead of their own car when need to free a hand. 1 single grain of sand will ruin the paint vmad.gif

Ceramic coat can diy. Plenty of options from meguiars, turtle wax etc. Just make sure to clean your car properly prior to application. Best bet is ppf since heavy vehicles nowadays tend to drive in the middle lane spraying stones left and right. I guess most people just cover the bonnet, bumper and front fenders

To add you can send your car in for ppf after you’re done coating the car yourself

Re-spray the car is not really a good idea unless use original paint that is expensive

Those who say respray only cost that kind of cheap amount probably super cheap budget and lousy paint job.

Example BMW cars that are gold color. Yes gold color
Either M4 or X2

The full paint job is so expensive that only 4S bmw certified centres can do the job. It is not easy to respray to original condition and more expensive than a full wrap ppf

This is why PPF is not waste of money

PPF provides the best protection. Especially against stone chips and scratches

Coating provides mild protection against scratches, but improves shine

wraps can protect against UV the best. But wont last long

I apply both
X-Pel (G-Guard)for my front part of the car and all inside door knob
Then ceramic coat (1st application at G-Guard), then my own DIY every 3 months

The only things that you need to take note is that both also prone to watermark, but easy to remove
This is because if your car kena rain, then the water sit there

I just did full body coating and PPF at 7autospa for new Alza. For the door handles there is a line in the middle because they don't recommend removing the new original door handle to install the PPF for the door handle, thus the line (or maybe they don't want to take the responsibility).
