There is no gear indicator light on the dashboard, I think you are referring to maybe the check engine light which is amber in color.Hence, I'm going with the mentality it must be the indicator wiring problem and dont fix things that are not broke.
If you have that, it means something is wrong with the car, could be throttle body, ice etc… use a diagnostic tool to scan for the fault code, it’s easy to know what is happening.
