Example, Samsung Galaxy S22 256GB.

Buy outright with 24 months contract = RM1,999

Buy with Zerolution 24 months contract = RM99 x 24 = RM2,376

But actually, since you end up paying RM377 more over 2 years by getting it with Zerolution, this translates to an effective annual interest rate of ~8.7%. Why do you buy a phone by taking such a loan???

Am I missing something here, folks?

You can't calculate the total amount you need to pay Maxis for a Zerolution contract as it include your Maxis monthly postpaid line payment.

What you need to do is deduct the amount you pay for you postpaid line.

Example:

Maxis Postpaid 128 with Zerolution 24-months
Samsung S22 Ultra 51Gb

Total amount paid = RM347
Amount paid for Postpaid 128 = RM128

So the amount you paid for your device monthly should be

RM347-RM128 = RM219

The total amount you paid for the device is RM219x24months = RM5,256.

The phone price according to Samsung site is RM5,899

You can't calculate the total amount you need to pay Maxis for a Zerolution contract as it include your Maxis monthly postpaid line payment.

What you need to do is deduct the amount you pay for you postpaid line.

Example:

Maxis Postpaid 128 with Zerolution 24-months
Samsung S22 Ultra 51Gb

Total amount paid = RM347
Amount paid for Postpaid 128 = RM128

So the amount you paid for your device monthly should be

RM347-RM128 = RM219

The total amount you paid for the device is RM219x24months = RM5,256.

The phone price according to Samsung site is RM5,899

With your example, upfront payment for a S22 Ultra 512GB with a Maxis 128 24-months contract is priced at RM4,799.

With Zerolution 24 months contract, will be paying a total of RM5,256. Which again roughly equates to paying an effective interest rate of around 8.7%!

I took zerolution to my iPhone 13.
If I get at the shop it’s around 3899
Maxis upfront purchase is 2839
Maxis zero 24 month is 3552

My decision of taking zero is due to;
1. I only pay monthly for the phone
2. My phone allowance from work will cover this payment
3. I have low entry fee and I zerolution my p20pro before
4. Monthly vs contract purchase with maxis is lowest cost of ownership. I sell my 2nd hand phone which is worth 700 now can cover this difference which is insignificant

No headache. Only issue is if phone break then I pay remaining months for something I no longer use but that’s purely my fault and pain a little longer la

Didnt opt for that. Its like insurance but its a tad more expensive if u ask me. Total cost is almost 1k for 2 years which doesnt make sense. Worst case may happen also i wont get back 100 percent. Mabe 50 percent discount to purchase another phone if you read fine print

I think i am ok for the normal 1 year warranty

By right, interest should be 0 since you are already subscribed to their 24 months plan.
But you allow them to charge you an "effective" interest on top of having to pay for the 24 months plan.

That's not very wise

Just curious. How much phone allowance your company gives you per month.
