Hi fellow sifus,

Would like to seek your feedback. Am thinking to get the new Honda Civic. The high spec carries an 18 inch tyre (Micheline Pilot Sports 4) and the mid spec carries a 17inch (conti max contact). Personally i like the looks of high spec more. Comfort wise - which is better.

The price difference is RM6k ish.

I test drove the 18 inch and realise that i can feel the bumps on the floor. Very hard.

Which size suits the malaysia road more? I generally travel in PJ area.

.. and what are the pros and cons. Wanna get myself educated here smile.gif

17 inch is perfect. Use higher profile tire for max comfort. If u use 18...pergh kena pot hole ...nice one....tayar picah

If your priorities is comfort go for 17. Thicker tyre will allow for more road bump absorption, but at the cost of handling.

In my opinion 17 inch is a good compromise between comfort and handling. Bough my car with 16(215/60/16) wheels, felt comfortable in malaysian road but doesn’t felt good on corners. Upgraded to an 18(225/45/18) wheels and car felt firmer at corners in high speed, but as u say it felt bumpy. So changed to 17(225/50/17) and I think it has the best balance between the 2

Comfort wise - It goes without saying that thicker tire profiles gives better absorption of badly maintained roads.

Personally, 18" is not an issue if ...
1. Only drive fast if you know the roads well. Or toll roads which are mostly well maintained.
2. On other urban federal/council roads, be cautious on roads you are unfamiliar with, to avoid hitting potholes, sudden road undulations, etc.

That's what I do on my 19" wheel car. And I drive differently when I am driving my wife's car which has 17" wheels. Driving according to road conditions is what keeps your wallet safe from dented wheels, punctured tires etc.

17 is definitely better for comfort if that's what you prioritize.
Pros:
- comfort
- cheaper tires
- slightly lighter acceleration due to lighter rims
- easier to handle in the wet/less nervous cuz softer.
Cons:
- handling and steering response not as sharp.
- subjectively may not look as nice.

The 18” rims on the Civic is best fit and looks damn good.
If you want comfort, the Civic is not the right car for you, get a crossover instead.
