I had this issue back in 2015. Tho mine was caused by injured muscle around the spine area which i didnt let heal properly. As a result, the spine collapsed and pinched the nerve.

I found out about it while in the gym and suddenly my left hand literally had no strength. Was even struggling to hold glass of water.


Did the mri the doc said let the neck muscle heal it will work itself out. But i did go for chiropractor (few sessions), had massages etc. Healing process was indeed slow. Took few months before the left arm got back in shape and caught up t my right side, strength wise.

Throughout the recovery, the left shoulder and arm was aching like mad tho.

As yours sounded like its even worse (herniated), its gonna take longer im afraid.

Isn't bulging disc and hernia the same?

Didn't really have a specific treatment i.e. physio or anything. I did the full spine alignment chiropractic for about 4 sessions at Osteocare (that time about 120 per session iirc) and then random Indonesian massage from a contact I know for a few sessions. I just tried out anything i can find at the time since was desperate.

Then it was pretty much self rehab, slowly building up the strength back on the arm (bodyweight workout, rubber band etc) and i think by the 3rd month im back in the gym, but had to work back to the original weight that I left off.
