SIFU on lowyat, can recommend me some of the cheap and reliable plan for Gps tracker for my parents. Basic slow data enuf but hopefully long validity & good coverage. notworthy.gif

[2/Mar/22] A bit of update,

Got Yoodo 2gb+50sms=Rm15. Plan to renew only 50sms@Rm3 onward as it already has basic internet.

Got a Gf-21. Supports LBS,Wifi & GPS. LBS is hopelessly inaccurate but Gps is good. Battery life max 3d. The 365gps app is slow & lack features, need Sms to get real time position. Only support 2g telco.

GPS tracker need to send the info to your phone whatever since you are in remote place. Just like truck or car tracker monitored the movement of car or truck on PC in office. The info is the one that needs cellular service.

The info is small only but depends on how frequent you want to update the positioning. I have no idea at the moment blush.gif laugh.gif

How long the 1Gb last in your case? How about refresh rate?

Yoodo RM 3 for SMS more than enough.

GPS don't use LTE data.

I'm using this method of tracking my tools via an el-cheapo GPS tracker bought from Shopee. The unit will SMS for any change in location or alarm.

The tracker I found out will use just around 100 bytes to sent info. If you just request for info on demand only, then 1GB can last for months.

Yes, I forgot. Most tracker use SMS but some use data line but not the 4G. I think this is for device that you need to inquire the position, not continuous updating like car tracker. That is why I think 2G is maintained even though the 3G has been discontinued. Make sure your device is not using 3G since 3G is no more available. There are devices depends on 3G

I used Digi Prepaid (I can't remember what package) but for a year, it cost RM28 or something like that. Already comes with 1GB of data per month which is plenty. Used it on a tracker on my dad's car. Everyday about 30km drive and data update every 15 s.

You can just use any old phone as GPS tracker. No need to buy tracker specific for tracking purpose unless you has specific reason.

The tracker send information to a server and not your phone. Data is stored on the server. Your app then pulls the data from the server.

Yes, I know that. The device manufacturer mostly did not charge for the service. Basically it is transparent to end user.
