I was doing some price check on the lens and one of the companies over here said that it is discont...I'm not sure if that's true as it is still listed on Nikon's site. But the price is relatively high nowadays, mostly around 1050usd, but asian version can be had for 940usd. If anybody is doing some shopping, can you check and see if the lens is still easily available in msia? I'm thinking that the guy is SKLing me...trying to get me to jump on it or something

I was gonna mess with the 85mm 1.8 first, but people are asking for RM1k+ used....might as well just grab the 85mm 1.4 and be done with it. Thanks for the info sifu

I tried looking around for the 85mm f/1.4 but the same reply "No stock, need to order". The 85mm f/1.8 has stock and it is around RM1400 or less when I asked Jason at J-One in Amcorp mall.

i used to own 85mm f1.8 and no doubt it is a very good portrait lens (f1.4 even more creamy) but 85mm too tele for me and require high shutter speed to prevent hand shake.

end up i sold it and got 50mm f1.4 which i am more comfortable with

the 85mm 1.4 is the fastest nikon teleprime, and about 2/3 stops faster than the 1.8. You can't get anything faster than this on nikon.

but if you are gonna grab those soon-to-get stuff, why bother with this lol. The 70/80-200 is just as good as far as IQ, just that they are heavier and has a longer min focusing distance...also 2 stops slower

The current production version (two touch), and the af-s version (discont) are both extremely close to the 70-200mm. But the 85 is half the weight of those lenses, faster, and has smoother bokeh.

I check ler...it's Pentax. Both Nikkor and Canon at RM1200. But Pentax is RM800...
