Hi guys, I recently bought a sub sale house and plan to move in for own stay.

So coincidence that my next door which is a corner house sold to someone too. This new owner wanted to do major renovation which include 10+ points of piling and extend the houses all the way. They are in the middle of discussing with engineers and architect for this project and submitting renovation plan to local council soon.

But They are kind enough to inform me that the renovation is planned to start in end of this year and it would take roughly 1.5 years to 2 years. I am home based worker and both my wife and newborn baby would be staying at the house. Since the renovation is superb noisy in the morning so we are forced to find a new place to rent for 2-3 years period cry.gif

Meaning I would need to pay both my house and rental house which is rather unaffordable for me at the moment cry.gif

Anybody faces this problem before which your neighbour doing major renovation that has unbearable noise for extensive period of 2 years? Any advise from you all?

Thank you very much in advanced. notworthy.gif

p/s : The house is ~35 years old Double Storey Terrace

There is specific requirement for piling now days. They're not allowed to use the hammering type, but the silent one.
Hacking and other drilling is unavoidable.

But 2 years? Is council permit valid that long?

Thanks for your help ran_deep.

They did told me that it's the drilling type which if not mistaken will bring less effect to the surrounding house?

I am the only house that stick with his house as I am right next to corner house.

They estimated to be 1.5years and fastest to be 1 year because the project is rather extensive.

At the same time, they are not rushing. So it's going to be slow progress.

they wont be piling for 2 years i guess.
piling for 2 years sounds like klcc-scaled-building

Hi Ungka, thanks for your reply.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The piling should take <1 month if not mistaken and the entire project is ongoing for about <2 years.

But they are hacking extensively which basically "demolish" the entire house. I believe it going to be very loud as well

Nobody do piling for an extension, unless it's a 3 storey, house on a slope or the location is ampang, bukit antarabangsa kind of place.

Most probably just extra large footing.

1.5-2 years is just an indirect way of saying, just in case I'm short of fund, the whole thing might drag longer.

Thanks scorgio for your reply.

If not mistaken it's due to the foundation or soil strength problem. the house is settled over the years.

I am not sure whether they going to be extend to 3 storey but they told me it's going to be a very extension work. They are their own house contractor so it's going to be slower progress.

By the way, the land area is about 4.5k square feets and currently ground floor is taking about 1k+ square feet only.

right. the hack job will be quite noisy as well.

anyhow i won't know for sure how the reno plan would be..
but i would guess by 3rd 4th month maybe less hacking.
no one would keep build and hack again and again except for the minor one like installing fittings and stuff

They told me that hacking staircase alone would take rather "long" time and the loud is unbearable.

So basically they are tearing down the entire house by hacking bit by bit and rebuild it back.

Hopefully it going to be the case as what you said, only the first few months are hacking.

Usually if piling (Drilling type), would they damage my property structure?
