Technology... dun u just love 'em!? QUOTE Even before the 45nm processors are commercially available, Intel is already showing off its advancements in the 32nm manufacturing process. During his opening keynote, Intel's CEO Paul Otellini held up a 300mm wafer that contains working chips based on the 32nm process technology. Expected to begin production in only 2009, the new 32nm chips will be built based on the upcoming Nehalem architecture and will feature the second-generation of the high-k metal gate transistor technology. Each processor is said to house more than 1.9 billion transistors.
The "tick" version of this 32nm CPU in 2009 will be called Westmere, while its "tock" upgrade, expected in 2010, is named Sandy Bridge. In the slides shown, Intel anticipates that chips based on the next-generation 22nm manufacturing process will be out only in 2011. I think there is worthless for people to wait and see and the only decide to upgrade. As mentioned, technology will never stop. As Van Neumann mentioned, new tech will arise in every 12 months (reality 18 months). Thus, there is no point to save money until 2020 to buy one new hardcore PC though.

Oh, and most of the people who talk about "waiting" seem to have pretty awfully outdated rigs. Talk big, buy zippo.
