Let say you saw a cheap deal on Facebook about someone letting go their old gaming laptop, 2 years old for 70% of their retail price, will you buy it? Or you prefer to buy new laptop instead?
What's the big take for you to buy a new/2nd hand gaming laptop?

If gaming laptop prefer bought new or used under warranty. If normal laptop from good model & brand could consider used set without warranty.

would prefer new one because of the latest gpu, would be able to handle newer games better.
but would depend on the games you played. if that old gpu can handle it, then no issue. another thing to consider to the laptop capability to disable optimus if you're using external display

2nd hand laptop is only worth buying if you can inspect it physically.. and still under warranty.. brands like lenovo & dell allow you to extend the warranty (fee applies).
a bit risky to buy online without seeing it personally.. coz you can't see the flaking keypads (like asus), dents on body, unresponsive touchpad, key or even problematic wifi.

If in good condition/quality and replacement parts readily available (not those China brand ones like Illegear/Tongfang models or Thunderobot) then should be no issue.
So it really depends. But I would not even consider it unless 50% of the retail value or less.
