I’ve been watching a lot of design videos in Singapore particularly of the HDB variety and I’ve found that most blocks are 20-30 floors. Those higher than this are a relative minority.

It occurred to me that 50+ Floor developments are becoming increasingly common in KV. Question is why is this necessary and will the town planning departments take accountability for flooding the market and creating this property overhang situation? It seems like the density per acre is almost higher than Singapore.

QUOTE(mini orchard @ Jan 6 2022, 12:51 PM)
Buyers have a choice whether to buy or abstain.

As long it meets 'planning requirements', is left to developers how they want to dispose those units.

Caveat emptor .... buy and dont complaint later.

That’s a poor excuse because we here have a culture of not questioning how or why things are done a certain way. A lot of it is admittedly less exposure to what’s outside this country.

There’s nothing wrong in calling out poor planning or standards otherwise how does one improve.

That’s a complete lack of empathy for first time home buyers who bought in places like Cyberjaya or Sungai Buloh etc and see their equity fall by half.

Well the person I know I’d say was ill-informed or misguided. The property bull run of 2014 did a number on many.

I get it. I just don’t get the approval for the heights and density.

It’s on town planning to demonstrate the vision and match that with organic population growth.

Even Singapore had oversupply issues I think a few years back and experienced a period of stagnant prices.

The plot density of new developments in KV greatly exceeds theirs so that’s a lengthy period of oversupply with decreasing demand. Just because you can build 50/60 storey towers doesn’t mean you should.

The whole point is the greatly increased density which stresses the infrastructure of the area and as stated before adds to the oversupply woes.

Developers will always try to maximise profit, it’s their job to do so. Holding them accountable is another.

Well yes of course. Singapore is a truly landlocked island and they don’t have many residential buildings over 36 storeys.

I’m just saying if we continue on this trend of building 50/60 storeys then you will have a very much deflated market of our own doing.
