bout the ps3 lens prob...ive got mine and after several try and error..it seems that my first ps3 cannot be revived....i already changed the lens and hell...go to one console repairer shop and we both try to solve the
issue...but to no avail....

we've changed like 3 console lens and use my bdrom to another working ps3...it seems the lens did not read a thing even wif the working ps3...and to my surprise..the working bdrom did not even work on my ps3 !!!!!easy to say that my bdrom n the ps3 r the culprit.

so the theory bout the locking thingy is somewhat...kinda true...

wut i do remember bout those illegal media i have in my ps3 b4:

1. Pirated DVD
2. Pirated PS2 DVD
3. Pirated PS1 CDROM

so to those who juz bought their precious ps3...never ever let ur shiny ps3 eat all listed media above...coz who knows...ur ps3 will ended up like mine...

right now im enjoying my new PS3 Singapore version and will never ever let any those media into it again...ever!!!

*wut ive seen at the shop..most of the console that catch that COLD:
1. Singapore (like 3 or 4 console effected)
2. HK (1 console)

eventhough we change like 3 lenses already..the ps3 seems did not moved from it current state...

wut i do noted while opening and toying wif those unlucky ps3's ...if compared HK PS3 (my ps3 if not mistaken more like first batches PS3) and the new SG PS3...at the back of the bdrom mobo...they added a new...i might say a HEATSINK...where my old HK PS3 got no such thing...only plain thermal thingy..like tape..the dedicated IC is damn hot if u touch it when operating..and if u did not contact the IC wif PS3 main heatsink...the ps3 will hang...i suspect the ic too had to do wif this prob (mine prob only).

it seems that nowadays ps3 lens prob got lot of owner encounter...my advice is..do take care ur ps3 carefully...and if u have money to spend...buy an aditional fan to cool off ur baby..hope it wont encounter any PS3 ROD (overheating prob...ive encounter the prob b4..and sumhow i managed to find the solution )

i am not saying that the heat will contributed to the ps3 lens dead but most probably it will lead the machine hanging while try reading any media.

ya..i too had played my ps3 in long hours...17 hours non stop...after updating...the lens reading capabilities deteriorate...last time i try at air conditioned place...sumhow the reading capabilities is great...but back to my place...its useless...

being possesed by the demon in Ridge Racer 7 eat, sleep infront of ps3..huhuhuhu

So now after looking on the points above! Let try to conclude something!
1. Lens malfunction due to firmware If not mistaken,the lens read any pirated thingy and those locking mechanism will create sum sort of code and when updating the firmware it will caused the lens to be locked(its only theory anyway ).
2. Lens spoil due to pirated stuff.Avoid any ps2 or ps1 pirated thingy.Anyone encounter this prob when running only pirated dvd??
3. Continuous play for long hour under hot or warm environment, read disc start to make noise!
4. Heard that sum ps3 user got problem wif their ps3 rotor that mulfunctioning.that might be one of the cause but as for now..is there any spare part rotor in sale??


ya..if u got money to spend...an aftermarket ps3 cooling fans should help cool of ur ps3...after bought my new ps3, got myself 3 cooling fans for both my ps3.the 2 front intake fans and 1 exhaust intake fans.

at least u can help those hot air out of ur beloved ps3...sum ps3 user had encounter the overheating problem where ur ps3 wont start even u press the switch like 100 time...wif this ps3 cooling fan,the chances ur ps3 to catch this prob will be decreased .

as what ive seen at the shop...it seems all the effected ps3 only those wif capacity of 60GB and 80GB..and all regioned ASIAN PS3...HK n SG.

ps3 lens chances to defect is there...but how u handled/care ur ps3 will keep it lasting..the real caused of this nightmare still cannot be concluded as of each case appear to come with different suspect.

but nowadays u dont need to be afraid anymore..coz there's a considerate number of able people to change the ps3 lens for ya...or u can change it by ur self!!!

but DIY..u need a proper planning as if u come up alone on assembling/disassembling the console as it might eventually lead to a more severe injure to ur ps3.
