Club management wise, this is the default move. Clubs do not change their captains mid season barring serious disciplinary action.
So to do it is really bad rep for the club. Not surprised the club made such a stance. I think even if Rangnick truly believed Ronaldo will be the captain, he knows it is a bad move to immediately replace Maguire. On the Chelsea situation, I think we may all be taking a same stance on a club cost within a certain ballpark seen from a different lens.
So I apologize to readers that I may have to get more into the numbers around business for the purpose of this post than my usual football thoughts. Will try to keep it brief and as this sort of write-up normally belongs in the Finance section.

- The view of a high or low sale price depends on an individual's assessment on the valuation of the club. There is no hard rule here.
- Roman is allegedly valuing the club at 3 billion pounds. This will be the asking price which buyers will want to start negotiating down from.
- Roman has said he will not rush the sale but this will of course depend entirely on external factors. Primarily, to what extent are the UK government sanctioning Russians in the UK?
- One is freezing the assets of Russians. Chelsea Football Club is a huge multinational company. But it is an asset nonetheless of Roman as owner.
- When an asset is frozen, no finances can flow out of the said business asset. Chelsea will have to apply for a special license to even pay their staff. This should be accommodated as their staff are based in UK with nothing to do with the conflict.
- Transfers become tougher. Transfers are not crucial in the daily operations of a club so the freeze will apply. This is a situation for the Premier League, English FA and FIFA to sort out on the degree UK sanctions on Russia affects football.
- All in all, the sale of Chelsea will largely depend on the degree of UK sanctions and Roman's personal situation. If he is not strapped for cash, he could just sit tight and let the sale take it's own sweet time.
