Beijing (Gasgoo)- On December 23rd, China’s ICT mogul, HUAWEI, introduced the AITO M5 (M5) mid-size SUV, co-developed with its automaking partner, SERES.

The M5 is the first model under the newly launched AITO brand from SERES. According to HUAWEI, the SUV will be powered by the HarmonyOS intelligent cockpit with HUAWEI’s DriveONE electrical system.

The M5 can generate 3.2 kWh electricity with one liter of fuel through the 1.5T four-cylinder range extender 3.0. The vehicle features an intelligent four-wheel drive (4WD) model, with a front asynchronous AC motor and a rear permanent-magnet synchronous motor, reaching 315kW- 365kW of power. The vehicle can run from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

HUAWEI said the M5 allows an NEDC range of 1,195 km on a full charge.

While the power is strong, the M5 is designed with double-layered sound-proof glasses, providing a “library-like” silent environment. Moreover, the NVH of the vehicle is reduced to 56.9dB.

The latest HarmonyOS intelligent cockpit bridges the information gaps between vehicles, mobile phones, smart homes, and smart wearables.

The vehicle is equipped with one CMS camera, one DMS camera, one DVR camera, one visual sensing camera, four APA cameras, twelve long-range ultrasonic radars, and three millimeter-wave radars.

As to vehicle intelligence, the car features L2+ autonomous functions, including lane cruising assistance, blind-spot alerts, and 360° intelligent parking under over 100 scenarios.

The M5 comes in three trims, priced from RMB250,000 to RMB320,000. The test drive of the vehicle will start on January 20th, and delivery is expected after the Chinese New Year.

Not easy to diversify. It could backfire as well.
