proton waja cannot be discontinued at the moment although it sounds really 7 years already . what syed means is probably those cars under his era .
the cost to develope the proton waja is so high that is is almost 70-80% more than the gen2 . not to mention about the gen2 is actually developed from proton waja's platform . but proton waja platform is also derived from the mitsubishi karisma . I have read somewhere that automotive analysis did mentioned before that the cost to develop proton waja is equivalent to the cost to develop a middle luxury model .
and protn need to sell double the amount of the gen2 car if it were to turn into profit . most probably proton will redesign and reskin the proton waja as proton financial status is kinda low . as for the perdana, it is very possible that proton wont have a replacement for it in this short term . it is becasue proton current standing doesnt really allow them to develop a mid segment car , the perdana as proton simply doesnt have enough fund to develop a model where it capture certain level of the market only. what proton really need now is a MPV which is around 1.3-1.6 segment, by conquering the market with the mpv as to gain the company fund. it enables proton to further develop necessary upper range engine which could be 1.8-2.0 using anohter engine platform, along together with the development , perdana replacement is going on too .
