for your info saw the news from sattv, one benz owner in china who was injured badly in a head to head car clash yet the airbags did not trigger, did not receive any compensation from the car manufacurer. So benz also has low quality parts.

pretension will pull the seatbelt back when a certain condition is met la
like for example u do heavy braking or emergency braking, the pretension seatbelt will then tense the seatbelt la more like a controller.... not exactly sensor... |

huh? thought our seat beat work in mechanical only?
even old car have such features even u can pull the seat beat hard and sudden by bare hand... the seat beat will lock immediately once the sudden "pull force" happened... if there have "pull force" by hand only, car explode? |

yeap.. airbags are really small bombs
But that pretensioner thing.... there is some sort of mechanical type that is none explosive.. if its explosive.. then that has to be a lot of bombs in there to blow up.. everytime someone does an emergency brake..... its just a pressure controller of sorts in there, some sort of belt tightener device.. no bombs This post has been edited by ydingo: Jan 1 2008, 10:13 PM |

QUOTE(kcng @ Jan 1 2008, 10:08 PM) pretension will pull the seatbelt back when a certain condition is met la Quoted from wikipedia:like for example u do heavy braking or emergency braking, the pretension seatbelt will then tense the seatbelt la more like a controller.... not exactly sensor... Seatbelts in many newer vehicles are also equipped with "pretensioners" and/or "Webclamps". - Pretensioners preemptively tighten the belt to prevent the occupant from jerking forward in a crash. Mercedes-Benz first introduced pretensioners on the 1981 S-Class. In the event of a crash, a pretensioner will tighten the belt almost instantaneously. This reduces the motion of the occupant in a violent crash. Like airbags, pretensioners are triggered by sensors in the car's body, and most pretensioners use explosively expanding gas to drive a piston that retracts the belt. Pretensioners also lower the risk of "submarining", which is when a passenger slides forward under a loosely worn seat belt. - Webclamps clamp the webbing in the event of an accident and limit the distance the webbing can spool out (caused by the unused webbing tightening on the central drum of the mechanism) these belts also often incorporate an energy management loop ("rip stitching") which is when the lower part of the webbing is looped and stitched with a special stitching. The function of this is to "rip" at a predetermined load, which reduces the load transmitted through the belt to the occupant, reducing injuries to the occupant. |

QUOTE(kcng @ Jan 1 2008, 10:08 PM) pretension will pull the seatbelt back when a certain condition is met la that is not pretentioner, but called the locking mechanism without using any explosive, again from wiki:like for example u do heavy braking or emergency braking, the pretension seatbelt will then tense the seatbelt la more like a controller.... not exactly sensor... Most seat belts are equipped with locking mechanisms (or inertia reels) that tighten the belt when pulled fast (e.g. by the quick force of a passenger's body during a crash) but do not tighten when pulled slowly. This is implemented with a centrifugal clutch, which engages as the reel spins quickly. Alternatively, this function may be secured by a weighted pendulum or ball bearing: when these are deflected by deceleration or roll-over they lock into pawls on the reel. |

becoz to what i understand is.... normal seat belts will still have high risk of hitting the steering and the airbags as well... airbags can save ur life but it will injured u as well.... it can say a double edge sword too... but den... pre-tensioner is there to lower the risk too....
