Depends, it's already known YES lame 5G network throttles you by your device IMEI and therefore ever since their network switched over/equipment replacement for their 5G network they've filtered lots of devices out from their compatibility list forcing you to only buy their products or compatible phones.

I was previously on their Kasi Up 49 Postpaid plan enjoying their 100GB monthly quota which supports hotspot usage legally because pure quota based also got throttled down to 1Mbps speeds with my 4G modem which made they untrusted company which forces old customers to either comply to only use their modem with contract or move out.

When it detects your phone/modem device is not in their small lame list of compatible devices which they don't like you owning for contract freedom  they'll start throtling your device and their customer rep will just tell you your equipment is "not in their compatible list".

The whole idea is to force you to only use their 5G modem is because of the 2 years contract which requires FULL remaining months commitment if you terminate early.

A modded modem simply isnt considered illegal. It just spoofs/imitates the IMEI of a compatible device to circumvent the troublesome throttling which you're already entitled to use when paying for your service no difference from others. Meaning if a modem's IMEI is modded with a Apple iPhone IMEI, the ISP network will be tricked into thinking you're using a iPhone n their network and if it's in their compatibility list you'll pass/avoid throttling.

Standalone 5G coming soon?

Doubt it. Enhance features with dnb not complete overhaul. Probably adding more location for kg area and speedup process. Looking at his tone now he impress with 5G implementation by dnb

KUALA LUMPUR: The development and rollout of the 5G infrastructure in Malaysia is only done through Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

This was confirmed by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, following a report by an online portal about a potential new network for the 5G rollout.
