for samsung case, it's firmware locked.
update to latest firmware to see if it works
if not, u'll hav to wait till Samsung release firmware updates that unlock the 5G bands.

reason behind such software lock is that previously, m'sia only got 4G.
so no point unlock 5G as it will add unnecessary latency to the modem, searching for unsupported bands.
samsung probably will release the firmware update when big partners get on board 5G.

Probably because s20 ultra was approved back when 5g wasn't a thing yet in MCMC eyes, only approved as 4g lte device (even 5g is only 3500/3700 and missing 700mhz for anchor band)

If samsung want to provide firmware update that adds 5g support, probably need recertification under mcmc for 5g usage. This may take time or may not ever happens

today tested the 5G at my office in KL, indoor location.
using hotspot, download + upload total of 200+GB.
speed is pretty good, easily couple hundreds of Mbps.

using 5G hotspot on my phone, i noticed 2, things.
1) battery drain fast
2) phone pretty toasty, ~45C in open a/c.

yes, got fake & real 5G.
mostly in KL, putrajaya area, u can get real 5G.

other places, it shows 5G, speedtest local server also good speed.
but when u try other countries server, 4G speed.

Nope. Last time all the while i can stay on dnb 5g to make call with yes and celcom sim.

Until recently both sim not able to do so.

I believe DNB charge MNO for voice call if volte is established at DNB 4G.u can see the cell changed from dnb 5g nsa to MNO own 4g cell when u make call. And the signal changed from 5g to 4g...

I really feel speechless for this. Last time im the one who support swn... Now... Aiz...

Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (Malaysia) should be the right one but .............

worst is the big 4 telcos, especially maxis & mobile has the capability to deploy 5G way earlier already.
but now stuck bcoz of DNB.

as far as i know, maxis were the 1st to get things ready way b4 DNB existed.

if telco in charge, at the beginning sure a lot of issues.
but they will launch first, iron out later.
wit DNB, take month & month for studies, reports, testing, then takes dunno how long to come out wit requirements, & negotiations.

the fact that they use B28 (700) as anchor band also very cibai.
cuz a lot of early 5G phone on the market doesn't support B28.

First step to monopoly. How? Control everything while trying to phase out older technology gradually. By the time they ended 4G, telco would have nothing. DNB control mobile network, TM control  fiber. Then create a BMF entity, sell services to them at BMF rate to beat the Big4. Then dakwah they done something for Malays, whereas crony own everything.

When DNB deploy 5G in Genting Highland?

Yes does not have coverage in GPO parking, no signal as well driving otw to GPO, slow speed in other area like Stars of Arena

Maxis has full bar signal strength but speed is very slow as well....

Indoor those shopping mall Yes has LTE 2300Mhz but very slow, send out message need a few seconds, send out photo takes longer time...

My Samsung phone locked to b28 and no signal in Arena of Stars...

I think once bee end winning the election, they'll have no choice but  to sign up if the new gahmen firmly supporting the DNB initiative or risk being left behind.

Even if red team wins, it's already too late to close down DNB, since the progress is already halfway, also the fact that there are too many contracts to terminate (eg: Ericsson, Edotco, Austral Techsmith etc.) and they would have to pay huge sums of penalty, at most I think they would just change the policies and let telcos own all the stake in DNB.

But of course, Gobind did quite well during his time in the ministry so I expect better policies and solutions when he's back, fingers crossed for red team.
