I just got a call from a TM Rep from the number earlier today - 0379647000 (legit number BTW, i confirmed it with TM thru their 100 line), the guy said my condo recently got fibre - and want to arrange to convert from copper to fibre and want to send my details to the scheduling team to manage. I told him i dont want cos need to drill hole, and drag wire across my house to where my router need to be - eyesore etc.
He said if i dont change, TM plan to move in stages and my internet may go down one day and cannot blame TM because already calling to change from copper to fiber, and my internet copper line also degrade, so internet performance will be poor bla bla bla...
Question: Is what he say is true where we are *FORCED* to change from copper to fiber? I only wonder if say the crazy thing happen - everyone in my building change to fiber and i'm the only guy with copper - will they just so crazy and put down my internet ? I'm a bit skeptical but wanted to get your thoughts on that.
Obviously he as a rep he is doing his job to educate us that there's a need to change from copper to fibre, but i should be able to say No also, otherwise why bother calling and when i ask for deadline he said he dont have that info, TM will do it in stages....
BTW I'm staying in condo and my condo is > 15 years old.

If you dont upgrade..i foresee they will terminate your internet in the future.
If you are okay with that..you can choose not to upgrade.

Once you go fiber, you'll never want to go back to copper.

Must change to Fiber,TM will stop support copper internet in future. And they not longer implement copper infrastructure for new area.

TM will retire all copper lines eventually.
Fibre is the way to go.

Yes you have to change. TM will eventually shut down copper line. Don't worry the drilling part is very minimal, if they can do without drilling they will take that root.

TM is now retiring copper infrastructure and also move to fiber. You can also notice that there is no more copper infrastructure in newer taman and building, all running fiber.

I changed my current house copper cable to fiber cable on 01Nov2021 as TM offer FOC upgrade to Fiber connection, and after changed I decided to switch to Maxis Fiber higher speed broadband since Maxis provide good offer (RM30 off for 12months) Maxis Fiber came installed today and the configuration is only took <1hour. and this is the connection speed I can get (using CAT5E LAN Cable) :
Wi-Fi connection is about 5-15% slower depending on house location. Overall I'm satisfied with the upgrade.

But nowadays, I can count the number of times I use the land line in a year TM should have their own power line. Else the line exchanges will go down as well. You can see that when electrical grid fails, copper phones are still usable. So I expect all other type of lines will still be available. I would take up the offer. Take it. Some more, prioritised guaranteed port availability while everyone have to kill each other just to get one.
Negotiate for similar pricing if possible since it's TM that initiated the line upgrade.

Don't worry about fiber comms outage if there's an electrical outage. TM exchanges are equipped with diesel gensets to power their telco equipment in the event of electrical blackout. Just that on the consumer premises we have to install UPS for the BTU, to maintain lines of communication. but still we have our cellphones.

TM always drag their lazy a$$ on this fiber topic. More so if the subject is a high rise location - where the taichi game starts
TM will claim that they have issue LOO to the condo mgmt etc, but no replies etc - then the push here push there action goes on and on. Even if you lodge complain to MCMC the same reply will be given...at most time TM have never issue LOO to condo mgmt body.
Why? I dont know Perhaps they wanna milk you for a 30Mbps or max 50Mbps service

i already change to fibre from copper
speed get upgraded with lower price, of course re-contracted 24 months.
so far no long downtime and not often.
my case from request to change fibre til installation etc, took 2 weeks. their technician will suddenly call you and tell you they arrived. lol so called appointment date all not accurate. just take note of this.
after install fibre cable, need to wait for another technician to come to change my modem and configuration etc.
cannot be done in one shot.

Actually it makes more sense for TM to replace copper line phone with Unifi Mobile etc than Onu-fiber, only if they able or willing to port the landline no to mobile. Not unlike SG since decades ago.

My advise for TS, better proceed and upgrade to optical fiber. You will regret in the future since nobody know what will happen in 10 years later. Copper line will be abandoned in the future. The future world is all about gigabit networks.
