Trying to build a workstation for software development, budget is around 5k, don't have any pc customization experience, not sure whether this customization works or not.

cpu: i7 12700K 12 cores(8p cores, 4e cores), 20 threads - RM 1849
cooler: scythe byakko ii air cooler - RM 139 <-------------- (not sure about this, so i picked relatively cheaper 1)
motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 - RM 1100
ram: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL 32GB (16GBX2) - RM 1100
psu: Coolermaster V Gold SFX 750W - RM 600 <--------------(not sure which brand is better, but i think 750W should be enough)
casing: msi mag vampiric 100r - RM 250
gpu: my existing GTX 760 | ZOTAC - RM 0 <--------------is it still compatible?
hdd: my existing ssd + hdd (sata form factor) - RM 0

so total around RM 5038....


is my build above valid? or any suggestions?

get a better cooler. Don't cheap on that. You can go ahead with a B motherboard instead of a Z motherboard if you are not planning to overclock. Your GPU will still be compatible but I don't think it will be enough to play current AAA games. If you are planning to use this PC for a long period you should also upgrade your PSU to a more reputable brand like superflower.

Intel 12th gen, consider very hot.
Try to add 240mm AIO to solve your heating issue.

Anyway get i5 12th gen consider very sufficient than many 10th to 11th gen processor.

is gigabyte B560M DS3H - RM 499 ok? for now DDR4 RAM is ok for me....and i don't play games...

any suggestion on the cooler?

hmm, i think i dun go for liquid cooling, what about Noctua NH-D15? from what i research, seems like a good air cooler...just need additional mounting kit for LGA1700 motherboard

Please do more research, some user mention, the cpu temperature can easily hit up 60-80c.
Try to get AIO with 240mm radiator to solve a long-term operation.

The latest 12th gen motherboard all comes with 2 socket holes, for 1700 & 1200 still available to fit.

One more thing can save money from CPU.
Can decide to get i5-12600k, the performance is greater than Intel 11-11900k

Hi, thx for the benchmark image, I really dun 1 risk leakage from the water cooling, and I do a few more searches, the CPU overheating don't happen that often if u r not doing gaming/heavy rendering.. And I saw from what they said NH-D15 is quite good for the 12th gen processor

This kind of build with liquid cooler,
Never heard got leakage before.
I am prefer this one AIO 240mm

this mobo is not for 12th gen CPU. currently, only z690 chipset mobos are available in Malaysia. B660 mobos may come next year.

nzxt is crap. better get EK, coolermaster or even IDcooling. much cheaper and better.

Your previously got leakage or something else?

My Nzxt H1 single 140mm hasn’t an issue pun.
Already used more than a years.
For my Intel 10th gen, 10700k in 36-45C only

temp is crap. especially some (fixed) their current models that no longer use asetek.

meanwhile their old models which use asetek is asetek performance obviously but you will be paying double.

my super cheap RM120 coolermaster ML120 lite 120mm aio + intel 10600K average 31-40C only (room temp 30) gaming max also 60C... inside an even smaller casing.

Get a Ryzen build.

If you don't mind to wait, wait for new Ryzen. I believe performance wise it will beat the Intel processor on your list. For you info, the 12th-gen Intel processor generate a lot of heat so I strongly recommend you to have AIO water-cooler. Noctua NH-D15 I not sure they got the latest 12th-gen mounting or not. AIO water-cooler give you about 3~5 years of lifespan while air cooler give you longer lifespan but throughout the testing. AIO water-cooler give you about 3~5°C cooler than air cooler.

Based on Malaysia weather, I would say AIO water-cooler or customised water-cooler would be ideally for us. On South Korea, Japan, Europe and North America, they are fine with air-cooler coz their weather basically cooler than us.

With cooler temperature, it actually pro-long the lifespan of your motherboard, processor, hard drive, PSU and graphic card. There is some reason, some people even installing heatsink with fan for hard drive. Now I don't think you can find it anymore as less and less people using old disc based HDD. Now we all go for M2 SSD.
