If it's host based, then can I just edit the host file in windows?

Pi Hole is not a proxy, it's a dns server

Also cant block

Facebook constantly changes their domains (served on same domain as posts afaik) and also they obfuscate their code so ad blockers dont work well like

TS please use uBlock Orign instead of ABP

This not sure. The list also constantly updated so doing it manual way will be troublesome.

Or just use uBlock Orign as PRSXFENG suggested. Or use browser that have ad blocking such as Brave.

Easiest way was using Brave. It block Facebook and Youtube ads. Also other pop up ads was block when using Brave.

Google Chrome got one ad blocker I forgot the name. It block Youtube ads and pop up ads but I not sure it block it block Facebook ads or not. Did not try that.
