Which option has higher impact on FC?
225/50 has larger circumference but 235 also adds a little to circumference but also wider so more drag, no?
Why upsize...looking for a bit more sidewall for comfort and also a slightly beefier look

235 having extra 4cm on contact in total will give u higher FC. However, it depends also what tyre you are using now and what you will be changing to.. If you are changing from performance to eco tyre the FC impact may not be significant thou..
also ur 225/55 upsize is not recommended as it exceed 2% differences

I would pick 225/55 for comfort and improved FE if perceptible. Circumference slightly > 3% should not be a problem in real life imo.

using goodyear excellence now. I find the ride pretty harsh I want max comfort by swithcing to best comfort tyre and a slight upsize since this is a family car. but dont want too much penalty in fc also. now even my smaller car is more comfy using conti UC6.

Maybe consider 215/55R17 ?? Highly popular size, wide choices of brands and models, ranging from UHP to eco. OD is bigger by negligible 1.5%, but width will be decreased though.

1st - Consider upgrading or changing to comfort base touring tires like Primacy/Turanza/Advan Db/Ventus Prime 3 etc tires first..
2nd if already done that and felt the sidewall still stiff, consider downgrading your sport rim from 17 to 16 if still got space to downgrade. 225/55/16 or 215/60/16 would be alternate choice but do take note when comfort side go up, handling side will go down.

I've used yoko advan fleva, michelin xm2, Gy excellence, and Conti UC6... what better in comfort and noise above all these?

Should be better in comfort, & FC which suit your criteria with more tyre brand & range to choose from. another plus point.

Why upsize...looking for a bit more sidewall for comfort and also a slightly beefier look 235/50/17 is less impact cuz lesser rolling diameter. The width eventhough on paper is 1cm wider but in reality often less than 1cm or just a few mm difference in actual tread width measured. However the 235/50/17 size is not as common, so more difficult to find choices. A quick check in few brands, I can only find Michelin Primacy 4 and Hankook S1 Noble.
