“We understand the strength of feeling that Chelsea fans will have, and their passion for the club. But it’s important to remember that these sanctions are being imposed on those who have provided support to the Putin regime and the brutal assault on Ukraine.”
Lol, shouldn't uk government be sanctioned too? Cos they imported billions worth of russian oil for decades, so technically they funded russian war machine
[Matt Law, The Telegraph] Why Todd Boehly takeover would keep Chelsea in the hunt for football's biggest prizes
QUOTE
1. A decade ago, Todd Boehly with a group bought LA Dodgers for a then-world record sum of £1.3 billion, beating Stam Kroenke (from Arsenal)'s bid of £900 million.
2. Boehly has offered between £2 billion and £2.5 billion and faces competition from the Ricketts family (owners of Chicago Cubs, bought for £520 million in 2009 for a then-MLB record) and Woody Johnson (owners of NY Jets, an NFL team).
3. The Ricketts family has previously succesfully redeveloped the Cubs' home ground (The Wrigley Field) for over £1 billion.
4. Boehly's track record suggests he is the most similar to Abramovich in his pursuit of success.
5. Under Boehly, LA Dodgers committed £123 million to buy two pitchers in a single weekend (a pitcher is kind of the equivalent to a bowler in cricket).
6. Asked what a successful ownership would look like, he scoffed back: “You’re not really asking me that, are you? The more World Series we win, the more valuable a franchise it is, right?”
7. Under his ownership, LA Dodgers have won eight consecutive Western Division titles, 3 World Series finals appearances (2017, 2018, 2020), and one win (2020). The 2020 victory was the Dodgers' first since 1988.
8. According to Forbes, LA Dodgers are the second most valuable basketball baseball team at £2.5 billion.
9. This is Boehly's second attempt at buying Chelsea, he had bid £2.2 billion in 2019 during Roman Abramovich's UK visa withdrawal saga.
10. A source close to Boehly said in 2019: "If Todd manages to buy Chelsea, or any other Premier League football club, then he will do it to win. Look at what he has done with the Dodgers. This would be no type of Kroenke ownership, he would want to be fighting with Manchester City and Liverpool, and Barcelona and Real Madrid in Europe.”
11. Boehly is involved in women's sports too. He is a part owner of LA Sparks, a WNBA team. Rescued them from "near extinction" in 2014 to winning the WNBA in 2016 and making the 2017 finals as well.
12. He also owns 27% of the LA Lakers since 2021 July and made a bid to buy a controlling interest in the National Women’s Soccer League club Washington Spirit, but withdrew his offer in January following months of negotiations.
13. Boehly has partnered with Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire and an unnamed partner in his bid to acquire Chelsea. He has also been approached by other interested parties.
14. Due to the current scenario, Boehly is thought to want to keep his group tight for now at least.
15. Boehly has experience in redevelopment of stadiums which is an obvious area for growth for the group.
16. He also sees other markets to exploit i.e.: American TV. Boehly wants to utilise the Saturday morning, uncontested slot in America to market Chelsea further.
Still, retard UK government would want to sell to oren kito, keep the money in the country
