Lol. Clearly stated.
"xxxx km or xx months, whichever comes first"
Translate into Malay: Yang mana sampai terlebih dahulu.

For the agoraphobia "warranty" type of character, then just obediently follow what's the next mileage or next service date.

It's not like the car gonna explode exactly after 10,001km in the middle of the road.

In US their cars have oil monitoring service indicator as standard, which is more accurate than following the sticker. And they follow in metric unit aka Miles. 1.6km for each mile.

Follow your service or warranty booklet call out if still got warranty.
Nowadays even your mileage did not meet but date reach also need to go SC as oil can degrade overtime due to exposure to environment especially our high humidity air & moisture can form in engine.

Unless no more warranty you can opt for good quality fully synthetic which can last for 1 year (Example: Amsoil Signature, Mobil 1 long life Extended Performance Motor Oil)

Perodua, Vios/City etc... Basically cheap out everything. Recommended mileage + another 5000-8000km only service. Ignore the date. Also only change oil, filter maybe change every 2 oil change. Oil also use "US walmart oil" kind of don't know what brand oil, said fully synthetic but only RM6x. Spark plug use till die, spark plug cable die liao go half-cut shop buy, on time got 4 cables at RM20. Suspension no sound no change, the shock absorber like totally no support already.

Other cars I pamper a lot, whichever come first. Some parts change early if I happens to drive hard for for some period.

whichever come first.

Although you might rarely use your car, but your engine oil will be degraded over time. Oil sludge will develop if you dont change your engine oil.
Follow your service manual

What is your honda model & engine use? Besides that did you choose to use normal oil or upgraded oil? Honda always "recommend" owners to pay more for fully synthetic oil as an upgrade thus when new their sales can brag that their cars is cheap in maintenance on paper but in reality need to add up during service.. tongue.gif

If you let your car sit for a while, just give it fresh oil.

There are so many factors when it comes to engine oil. For eg, method of driving, highway miles vs city miles, short trips vs long trips, how long was it left sitting, moisture and humidity, these are just some few examples.

That's why the interval recommendation was made to take into consideration the general average of all these factors combined.

1-2 months late service is not a big deal

Even without warranty it is better to service every 6-8 months. If you wonder why

Try go service after a year and see how dirty everything and troublesome.

If the vehicle is still under warranty, you would want to follow whatever established guidelines to be entitled to warranty claims(when necessary).

If the vehicle is not entitled to any warranty, usually cars above 5 years old, then you can do whatever you like. For my vehicle which is already 8 years old, I follow the mileage. If following date, it's usually 6 months interval before you send in the car for service. For my case, the interval for my last service is 2 years 1 month (instead of 6 months) since I follow the mileage which is 10,000 km.

Since my axia warranty has expired -

Engine oil: 10,000km or 1 year whichever first

Coolant, brake fluid, ATF, fuel filter: Follow specified mileage. But if seldom use the car then maybe every 3-5 years at my own discretion.

For example coolant and brake fluid you can check the condition and see if it's dirty
