Hi Guys,

I have been reading the subforum but I'm still unsure of which is more suitable for a new house that is currently being renovated. I know that tuya uses zigbee but some had said that there is some lag as compared to WiFi switches. I'm thinking of either tuya or sonoff but would like some advice as to which will be ideal. I'm thinking of using it for daily stuff like lights, fan, gate. Any thoughts? Oh also I have xiaomi robot vacuums.

Thanks so. Much

If you like to tweak and play around with HA then zigbee tuya is good for a low budget smart home.

If you are willing to pay a little bit more for a simpler setup then I think Aqara is better. Note that zigbee is more for Google home and Aqara supports both Google home and apple homekit, so it depends what ecosystem you mainly using as well.

Personally I’m using Aqara and I can control my devices using both my iPad, iPhone and Google home.

Thanks for the input, so far do you have any issues with the servers?

yes I guess have to consider the benefits of having it android and apple friendly. I want things simple and dont think i will be tweaking much.

Homekit is hosted locally via an iPad. So far so good. Scene works fine and quick most of the time. You need an iPad/HomePod/Apple TV for this to work so if you don't have them at home then you cannot control your smart devices remotely. Google one will route to their own server.

Google home is alright if you ask for a basic thing like turn on this or turn on that, but their routines commands are not so good (In homekit it's called as Scene). This is like a grouped command where you tell them good morning and then they do multiple actions in a row. Some of the pre-set command in google home like good morning and good evening have a multiple second delay so you don't even know if it is going to do the action you asked them. Homekit don't have this problem. You will also need to set your device (I'm on iOS) region to United States for this routines to come up. I don't know if this is a regional app problem or limitation, but I googled and found that many people have the same issue. If your device is set to Malaysia then the routines won't show up, which basically defeats all the purpose for a smart home if you cannot turn on and off multiple switches at a same time.

For your xiaomi vacuum - it will work separately. You can schedule it on the xiaomi app itself. I have one too but it doesn't really talk to my other device because it's running on daily timer.

a combination of all the different brands and use home assistant to link them all.

a word of caution, zigbee can be a pain. i usually use zigbee for battery operared sensors. maybe just keep 1 (or 2) powered by AC for mesh purpose.

prefer wifi where possible.
