Hi sifus, any DIY'er know any ways to fix loose screw holes on Fire-rated door? My door has an auto closer but the screw became too loose (screw thread no longer attached to the door)

I tried to find those (plaster?) wall plug to maybe screw on? but it doesnt fit (not without drilling through the door).

I'm looking at glue/silicone (home repair) to fill the hole/let cure and try re-screwing in but I haven't try yet cause not sure if it can hold (the fire door is quite heavy)

TLDR: need to screw auto closer to fire door but screw hole too loose, looking for ways to repair.

Thanks in advance notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Seen in FB, they wrap a copper cable onto the screw thread from top until just before the tip then screw it in.

Stuff with matches (head cut off), wood plug, or toothpick. Need to add material for the screw to bite into. The trick here is u need to PRESS in and turn. Not just turn only.

It should tighten/hold with a slightly bigger screw thread.

Anything that is put into a loosen hole to hold the screw will only work if the object is non moveable ....eg to hang a poster, wall clock etc.

Measure door thickness, then get screws that are longer, almost the thickness of the door, and use that to mount door closer.
-or-
Enlarge and deepen the existing holes, clean, then glue in wood plugs. When set, install door closer as normal.
-or-
Drill through the door, then use suitable nut and bolts to fasten the door closer.
