my hyundai getz lately got some decrease in power and weird sound. my regular mekanik suggest i start using lighter thinner oil 10w-40
all these while i still stick to 20w-50 because

1 - is 2nd hand hyundai getz old technology not new porsche masidis felali
2 - cheaper by alot. i usually buy castrol gtx not even habis 1 tong. so collect collect can settle after few round
3 - i go mostly to industrial places to hantar stiker so is a dusty and dirty areas and i think thicker oil can trap more contaminants
4 - cheap car use cheap oil sense
5 - 20w-50 is easily available everywhere and price i think is good. no point use mobil 1 right ?

ngam mou ? stick to 20w-50 or change to 10w-40 ?

I concur. These old hyundai engines without VVT, best to use thicker oil especially so if its burning oil.

Why not use 5w50? Morrison sells it for only RM40+ and its API certified

My 1999 Atos also using it for the past few years, no issues

Normal car using thick oil? Im not surprised that you feel sluggish. If youre using it just for the sake to avoid leaks, or worn piston rings, then maybe its time to do a full overhaul?

If you want to try thinner oil, I would not suggest 10W40. Give 15W40 a try instead.

5W50 for RM40+ must either be a truly lousy oil or stolen oil selling cheap. Avoid it.

I would not trust an oil that has such wide 10 to 60 range. Unless it is from a very reputable company and expensive.

Try to keep the range narrower.

50 is too heavy for small car. Even normal 2L engine also use 40. Gets recommend 30 0r 40 only

So, use 40. 5W-40, 10W-40, 15W-40. For sure the 5W is more expensive but you don;t need that The W rating is Winter rating. Meaning the lower the number the oil do not get thick in lower temp compare to 10W or 15W. If you can find 20W-40 also better. We are in Malaysia, no need to worry about W rating there.

The wider the range the more additive added and the additive is not lubricant and will not help to lubricate engine.

Now this is someone who know oil. Yes, I would suggest TS try 15W40 first that widely available. I don't think I have seen 20W40 here.
