I am officially a Singaporean Citizen now! 🇸🇬 Been hiding this since April cos I wanted to keep this special & personal news within my private circle of friends and family who loves me. But since NDP 2021 is coming, I think I am finally ready to share my feelings of what the SG Spirit means to me. ❤

During the @nycsg panel recently with @itecollegewest students, they mentioned that SG Spirit means inclusivity, where everyone is treated equally regardless of race, language, religion, education and background. When I heard that, I was touched beyond words.

I was born in a poor Malaysian kampung, and growing up, I knew that my choices in life were limited. Many of my relatives who stayed in our hometown are currently mechanics, kopitiam servers or factory workers. Honourable jobs to make a living to survive, but not what I aspired to be.

Therefore, every day, I thank my parents for giving up everything they had to send me here to Singapore. To me, this is the land of equal opportunity. Here, I was truly given a fighting chance. As long as I worked hard, I had the same opportunity as the person next to me to succeed in life. There was nothing which I was barred from participating. Therefore, in my humble perspective, the SG Spirit is inclusivity and equal opportunity.

Thank you Singapore for not turning me away, for not looking down on where I came from, for holding space for me to learn everything I know today and for giving me a chance to continue growing to be a better person tomorrow. I am truly so proud to be a Singaporean.
