Projector quality probably matters more.

IIRC, most IMAX halls in Malaysia are just using their cheap dual "2K" xenon projectors. Apart from brightness, the image quality is inferior to 4K halls due to smaller resolution. I recall finding IMAX @ Pyramid a bit pixellated the last time I watched a film there (Dunkirk).

The guaranteed 4K halls so far, based on a combination of viewing + feedback from cinema socmed teams:

All Onyx halls (GSC MV, TGV i-City, MBO Atria if it ever gets reopened)
GSC Maxx @ IOI City + Paradigm JB
GSC Mid Valley Southkey (all halls)
GSC The Gardens (all halls)
MBO Big Screen @ Starling (if it ever gets reopened)

TGV socmed never replied every time I asked them though
