properties to me is a difficult. it's not passive... it's always active. ask to pay rental, check bills all paid up, fix this that, ad to sell etc. do this when you are old... how to enjoy life?

vs. EPF. just let it roll itself. it takes 0% of your time. can go holiday, travel, without worrying tenant dump cement into your toilet bowl.

you don't need 4 million to fire, nor 10 million. 1-2 million is good enough. The caveat is you don't go for overseas trips, stay in a 500k condo instead of 2 mil landed house, and drive an axia instead of bmw/mercs.

The problem is, when you really reach your 2 mil accumulated wealth, then most people will tend to buy that 2 mil landed, drive that bmw, and go for european holidays.

bro guy3288... most ppl already live a b40 lifestyle... nothing wrong being frugal without luxuries... in bro ramjade case, he is being selective only spending money on healthy food and private school, etc...

as for time, he is not working 3 jobs 14 hr day not spending time with family... he is probably doing a most relaxed job to meet parents expectation and tax benefits...

as for fire... at 40, he has 20 yrs of extra "9 to 5" time to spend on himself n wive that would otherwise be given to some company... buying back time in this respect...

But i am 63 years now. Retired and still consulting. AND travelling! 
My 2 children are graduated and living in Australia. They just bought their own properties. I paid for their down payments. 

Your financials are very impressive! After paying for the children's education and property down payments, i am left with only pittance.

- NO FD. Everything cash in EPF- 30% of portfolio
- NO KLSE
- Started investing in SGX in 2011. Banks and REITs for dividends. Approx 25% of portfolio.
- LONGGGGG Gold since 2002.  Gold paid for my children's education and property. Physical Gold is now 28% of my portfolio due the rise in price in the last 2 years. Gold/silver miners make up another 20% of my portfolio due to the astronomical rise recently.

Most people claim to love travelling but they go the same touristy places every time. They totally ignore entire continents while focusing only on a few countries they like. Travelling is a shallow hobby to do when one retires.

Most people just want to be tourists, they have no concept of cultural immersion or experiencing something the way a native would. After a while it becomes tiresome coz being a tourist is tiring.

This of course does not apply to all but most people who say they like travelling are like that from what I can see.

Well , after FIRE is not easy but at least she reached FIRE. Good problem to deal with
