old liao, still want to manage 10k/mth income properties? don't play play.

properties to me is a difficult. it's not passive... it's always active. ask to pay rental, check bills all paid up, fix this that, ad to sell etc. do this when you are old... how to enjoy life?

vs. EPF. just let it roll itself. it takes 0% of your time. can go holiday, travel, without worrying tenant dump cement into your toilet bowl.

true. there is a lot if stress in property passive income. retire without stress is the best

you don't need 4 million to fire, nor 10 million. 1-2 million is good enough. The caveat is you don't go for overseas trips, stay in a 500k condo instead of 2 mil landed house, and drive an axia instead of bmw/mercs.

The problem is, when you really reach your 2 mil accumulated wealth, then most people will tend to buy that 2 mil landed, drive that bmw, and go for european holidays.
*
Which country to go for European holidays? just saw a YouTube on how bad paris has become.

bro guy3288... most ppl already live a b40 lifestyle... nothing wrong being frugal without luxuries... in bro ramjade case, he is being selective only spending money on healthy food and private school, etc...

as for time, he is not working 3 jobs 14 hr day not spending time with family... he is probably doing a most relaxed job to meet parents expectation and tax benefits...

as for fire... at 40, he has 20 yrs of extra "9 to 5" time to spend on himself n wive that would otherwise be given to some company... buying back time in this respect...
*
sometimes there is nothing to spend on. got money also dont know what to buy.
For eg. dining in expensive restaurant with overpriced drinks- i never liked those drinks and still prefer teh tarik at the local mamak shop. so less dine in these restaurants. some ppl might say stingy or fake rich or so on but if you dont have the desire/interest, you will go on your likes/wants.

imagine, after 40, interest in cars also not much even when you can buy what you want by cash. last time car got ding dent boom scratch, must straight go repair.... now just keep until sell the car

btw, i have set target 6M with conservative returns 5% to completely fire. Just 2-3 years away. Can extend but i dont need to accumulate any more $$$ bcse no desire in luxury spending anymore.

Congrats!
I have never FIREd.
But i am 63 years now. Retired and still consulting. AND travelling!  thumbup.gif
My 2 children are graduated and living in Australia. They just bought their own properties. I paid for their down payments.  laugh.gif

Your financials are very impressive! After paying for the children's education and property down payments, i am left with only pittance.
My investments are similar to yours.
- NO FD. Everything cash in EPF- 30% of portfolio
- NO KLSE
- Started investing in SGX in 2011. Banks and REITs for dividends. Approx 25% of portfolio.
- LONGGGGG Gold since 2002.  Gold paid for my children's education and property. Physical Gold is now 28% of my portfolio due the rise in price in the last 2 years. Gold/silver miners make up another 20% of my portfolio due to the astronomical rise recently.

Wishing you the best.  thumbup.gif

Many people think they love traveling, but often, that is not really the case.
The allure tends to fade with age... or maybe it is just that once you're no longer chained to an 8-to-6 job, the idea of rushing through airports doesn’t feel that magical anymore.
some consultants that had to fly a lot can share their experiences.
*
stamina drops as you get older. i travel a lot but recently i get tired very fast.

imagine 10 years a go , 20k steps a day for constant 10 days,

Now, 6 days, 5 days with 10-12k steps a day , and almost half dead by day 6.
Need to do more relax vacations now.

Most people claim to love travelling but they go the same touristy places every time. They totally ignore entire continents while focusing only on a few countries they like. Travelling is a shallow hobby to do when one retires.

Most people just want to be tourists, they have no concept of cultural immersion or experiencing something the way a native would. After a while it becomes tiresome coz being a tourist is tiring.

This of course does not apply to all but most people who say they like travelling are like that from what I can see.

i keep going to the same places bcse i love it. Never get bored but some places yes... get boring

would this be what some mean when they say they need a vacation from their vacation just to recover?  icon_idea.gif  biggrin.gif

i realised i never took a relaxing vacation. all are full of cardio /hiking/walking activities, visiting ancient ruins, temples, caves.

have to cut down by half due to age n stamina. hopefully can plan next trip on relax mode.

I got pushed this video too. Seems we have similar interests in lyn and yt 🤣

Well , after FIRE is not easy but at least she reached FIRE. Good problem to deal with
*
she dont have kids?

when you have kids, its different. Money could not be the issue but time and commitments added with stress need to be considered . With kids , worse if you got them late, better slow down /try to FIRE by (47-50)
Spend more time with them and basically all time will be gone for them.

Some ppl say nothing to do, get dementia after fire, -;maybe if no kids... but with kids, you will never have time .
