QUOTE(Cubalagi @ Nov 8 2023, 03:24 PM) This is just a survey of the "mass affluent" people i.e the vast majority of T20s, of the amount of money they think they need to retire. May not apply to M40 n B40 people. IMO most M40 and B40 are not at all thinking about or planning for retirement as they are focusing more on day to day survival. The upper M40 are probably the only ones giving it some thought and trying to do something about it.

QUOTE(Wedchar2912 @ Nov 9 2023, 02:37 PM) hehe..... which part of the phrase "mass affluent" makes sense for us here in Malaysia.... HSBC report really funny.... HSBC is not a bank for the general masses. So, they make a report that is relevant for their target market i.e. the mass affluent".

QUOTE(Wedchar2912 @ Nov 9 2023, 06:34 PM) sorry lor... HSBC is basically like Maybank in its main biz countries. definitely for the masses. just that because it is a foreign bank in Malaysia, somehow the malaysian clientele think slightly higher of it: HSBC, Citibank, and to some extend, the 2 local foreign banks OCBC and UOB... It's not about what the clientele think, it's what the bank thinks. HSBC will tell you to close your account and go open a local bank account if you do not meet their expectations on bank balance and activities. The other foreign banks do it as well sometimes but HSBC is far and away the worst when it comes to getting rid of the peasant individuals and companies.

QUOTE(HolyCooler @ Apr 23 2025, 01:00 PM) That time i was in college. Every time going back to hometown needed to go to the KL bus station, and that time the bus station so many ah pek pretended as gangster trying to threaten students for money, LOL. I remember i kena threaten by someone hisap dadah asking me to give him money, i fuked him and said go away, but then he took out a syringe as weapon, i surrendered and gave him rm1 and he went away When the auntie talking to me non-stop, what in my mind was 2 things. First thing was, this auntie must be damn rich since her kids can go study oversea and even staying there. Second thing was, this auntie 99% should be a weirdo (in her kids' eyes) that kena abandoned by her kids, if not no way lepaking here in bus station talking to me. She talked a lot but i can't remember most things except her kids were oversea working high class jobs. It is correct nowadays is different, it may be a better thing do not stay together and only communicate virtually or see each other in-person once in a while, lesser conflicts and more freedom for each other. The bolded part, I also kena this before in while I just started working in audit and had to walk around KL to take bus. That cilaka ahpek keep walking along side me asking for money and when I raised my voice asking him to leave me alone, he threatened me with a small blade. I gave him RM1 to avoid trouble and he went away. Kena like this a few times later also but I run away as soon as they start talking to me. Farking addicts.

QUOTE(dwRK @ Aug 21 2025, 01:56 PM) the framework reference basis is Jan 2026... so if one FIRE at 50 in 2016... gotta discount the 1.8 mil to the proper money of the day... This UM research is the one that EPF use to come up with the 3 tiers of retirement adequacy is it? Where to find details of the research?

QUOTE(126126 @ Oct 27 2025, 02:42 PM) Then i guess these are just normal ppl who travel once in a while and not “like to travel” people? Travel for work is totally different from travelling for leisure… Most people claim to love travelling but they go the same touristy places every time. They totally ignore entire continents while focusing only on a few countries they like. Travelling is a shallow hobby to do when one retires. Most people just want to be tourists, they have no concept of cultural immersion or experiencing something the way a native would. After a while it becomes tiresome coz being a tourist is tiring. This of course does not apply to all but most people who say they like travelling are like that from what I can see.

QUOTE(prophetjul @ Oct 29 2025, 09:57 AM) Holier than thou preaching. Each to his/her own. i like travelling to visit my friends and family overseas and just chill. Is that for everyone? Nope. Each to his/her own. Wow! You consider my commentary as preaching? Why? What do you think I am preaching about anyway? You do you, I don't give two shits about what you do. I just gave a commentary about human behaviour, if you terasa coz you identify with what I said, then please ignore but no need to accuse people of preaching when nothing is preached.
