I first started this thread exactly 4 years ago. I am 50 already. i spend most of my times  with my child and doing volunteering work.

I am actually quite happy my financials (this I have to thanks everyone here for contributing ideas and suggestions) 

My financials  is  more than RM6 million now, I have no loan or mortgage. What I have been doing for the past 4 years is :
- minus amount of my FD, 30% of my portfolio
- only hold dividend paying and blue chips in KLSE (Maybank, Tenaga, RHB, IGBreit, PavReit)
- bought 3 SG banks and 3 reits in SGX
- bought gold (physical and etf), today is 10% of my portfolio

how much approximately you spent per kid for the tertiary edu and property downpayment? Rm3mil enough?

If just undergraduate studies, AUD100k per year is more than enough.

Rm1 mil for education + rm2 mil for property.

as a malaysian i wont even consider Australia as my sister is there for almost 30 years
once ur kids go there (in this case i refer to my sister) they never wanted to come back
now 30 years plus she has her own family and made it in life she say this to me - study australia ok, have family here = no family
dont get me wrong she has a wealthy and loving husband, she has a good income job, she has kids in australia
now she is there 30+ years and her kids are all adult
her kids is a product of australian made, australian groom, pure australian manage
here comes the problem:
1. culture and tradition all gone
2. empty nester - kids move out when there are 18, some 19 and some 20 and very young age
3. loneliness (husband still alive)

money wont fix any of the above problem

me and her grow up in a big big big family, we stay in kampung house and inside 1 house got 4 generation

But for a Western English speaking country Oz is the best for SE Asian.

Most people claim to love travelling but they go the same touristy places every time. They totally ignore entire continents while focusing only on a few countries they like. Travelling is a shallow hobby to do when one retires.

Most people just want to be tourists, they have no concept of cultural immersion or experiencing something the way a native would. After a while it becomes tiresome coz being a tourist is tiring.

This of course does not apply to all but most people who say they like travelling are like that from what I can see.

Yea, same here. Although I don't claim to love traveling, in fact I don't really like it, just go for the sake of family trip

Yes. well said.  it's not about the travelling or the place you enjoy. It's who you want to spend time with and creating the memories together with.
