That's how everybody is... I am not saying it is you, but everybody wants to upgrade their lifestyle by taking up credit to show a life others can be envy about...

The trick is to settle down and relax... Not to be pulled by fast cars... better brands... luxurious travelling... occasional rendezvous in the fancy...

Be frugal... Stay down to earth... Under the radar... And invest, invest, and invest... That's my motto...

investing is nice, being frugal and down to earth is good.

but one thing i realized after investing so much is that we should spend the profits.. maybe in more other investments that can be seen haha..

Yep, people who die with millions while living miserably miss the idea of FIRE.

I'd say spend it on things that brings you meaning, even if it's pricy.

It's not so much as to save, and save, and save, and invest until the day you die... Who knows... Some might leave an inheritance for their children... And I suppose that property is the case...

To me, FIRE is about buying back freedom than toiling life with work from 9 to 5 until the day you die and give up...

Interesting enough, I just had a conversation with my high net-worth full-time trader friend in the recent weeks (we talk everyday but lately, about health) and today itself... He is already capable of financial freedom YOUNG and leave his 9 to 5 job in entirety (he got so bored that he went back to work), but chose to stay in the corporate world to keep himself busy and mingle around... That is, until life took an unexpected turn and sent him to the ward in the hospital...

The point of being frugal, start a business or even invest and compound it is so you can replace all that requires an average adult to commit in life back onto things that truly matter... For example, health... and people who do not exercise at all...

I have told my buddy that:
- What is the point of having so much money that if you die, your wife and kids would have to take up the suffering and grow up sooner?
- Who else is going to pay his mortgage if he passes on?

This news came up in my now-secluded SocMed... And how it's entirely true.

Just suddenly, hundreds of people were laid off. Incidentally, I also have a PhD in Programming friend with a tremendous belt of experience who was also laid off the same. He now struggles to find a high-paying job for almost a year already, despite being loyal to a company serving for nearly a decade...
*
It is the same story pertaining to my PhD friend who finally woke up after committing 10 years in University... And now being unemployed, over-qualified, with little-to-no income for retirement and is jobless... He had urged to get back to studying Cybersecurity (because studying is all he knew and was good at), until his uncle who is an Options Trader stopped him completely and that he reconnected with me knowing full-well I traded ages ago...

Health is indeed the best investment.
Sorry to hear about your friend, gws!

I guess everyone has their own self fulfilling purposes in life.

No raise: Retirement age for civil servants remains at 60, says Fahmi

I guess this will not be discussed for next 10 years?

I have my vice, which is alcohol, I manage to quit rokok dy and the rest I think shouldnt be too much of an issue

"Wealth" fundamentally means an abundance of something valuable. Money is only one form of wealth.

A common way to think about it is the trinity of [time, energy, money]. Health is effectively embedded within energy.

For majority of people, life tends to look something like this:

Age 0–20: plenty of time and energy, but little money.
Age 20–60: plenty of energy and money, but little time.
Age 60–90: plenty of time and money, but little energy.

A core idea of the FIRE movement is to optimize the balance.
If possible, the goal is to create a period—perhaps from age 40 to 60—where you have all three in abundance: time, energy, and money. This combination is more meaningful than the narrow view of money alone.

Me no much better than you. Only think about retirement planning when I hit 40. Can't recall what was the trigger.. kid starting primary 1, shifting to new place, etc. then out of blue I was like hey got to plan for retirement... Could have start sooner on hindsight.... But I also realized that my income was a lot lower younger days. Maybe gain few % more..

Anyhow not most financial savvy then and today still seeing/learning and reading all these experienced folks sharing their views... Help a lot to craft the expectation and level of prep.. technically I'm already retirement ready. Just maxing out the remaining few years of peak earning before they give you the boots

Good for you.

If you were able to do this nvesting and retirement planning well then its easier to do this healthy lifestyle well too. Basic ingredients of success are the same: consistency, some sacrfice, a bit of knowledge, power of compounding.
