QUOTE(virtualgay @ Oct 14 2025, 09:58 AM)
as a malaysian i wont even consider Australia as my sister is there for almost 30 years
once ur kids go there (in this case i refer to my sister) they never wanted to come back
now 30 years plus she has her own family and made it in life she say this to me - study australia ok, have family here = no family
dont get me wrong she has a wealthy and loving husband, she has a good income job, she has kids in australia
now she is there 30+ years and her kids are all adult
her kids is a product of australian made, australian groom, pure australian manage
here comes the problem:
1. culture and tradition all gone
2. empty nester - kids move out when there are 18, some 19 and some 20 and very young age
3. loneliness (husband still alive)

money wont fix any of the above problem

me and her grow up in a big big big family, we stay in kampung house and inside 1 house got 4 generation
*
Well, each to their own.
i sent my children there as i cannot trust the politics of Malaysia. Nor the never ending RnR societal rhetorics of the nation.
We are empty nesters in Msia too. laugh.gif
The thing is whether you know how to form your social networks, whether in Msia or Aus.
As for Australisation of the children, what do you expect? Remain Malaysian? laugh.gif

Loneliness when hubby is still alive means there is a marriage issue. nod.gif

Nope. Send them there. Let them buy their own house. Can't help them there already.

It is already tough to buy house now without help. It is going to be even tougher for them in the future.

lol... no lar... don't have to plan their home purchase also...

if can support them all the way till they start work (ok, some good parents will even ensure that the kids are fully funded in first few months of work) is more than enough.

home purchase can view as letting them have part of their inheritance early....

Just a light-hearted note…

You can’t change your date of birth, and changing your ethnicity or gender is... well, technically possible, but let’s not go there. tongue.gif

But hey... if money really can’t last that long, at least you can still choose to smoke and shorten the timeline a bit. hmm.gif brows.gif

Just saw this in YT.

https://youtu.be/qCagXXSpjP4?si=jiWoev3QYnWuHL6h

Early retirement looks easy — until you’re actually living it.
When I left corporate life at 47, I thought it would be simple. Seven months later, I’ve realised it’s peaceful and fulfilling — but also more complex than I ever expected.

In this video, I share what I’ve learned through the four phases of retirement — from the honeymoon stage of freedom, to adjusting to a new rhythm, to finding meaning and purpose through Ikigai Living SG.

My wife never encountered what this youtuber encountered. Wife has retired for 3-4 years now since her 30+. I always purposely making joke to her and say "You must be missing your working life so much and eagerly back to work now", her answer is simple "Fxxx NO!". My father retired at 55 and my mom around 47 that time, never ever heard they miss their job or regret of retiring (father is full of hobbies, mom mostly gardening and watching tv/online shows).

Btw, from a lot of posts about nothing to do after retired, these people seem have 1 similarity, they are sharing one same hobby or only has ONE hobby, that is, TRAVELING, once they have no place to travel to, they have no idea what else to do.

Me too. I had retired since 6 yrs ago.
Still got no time or extra money to go travelling around.
Still hv not felt bored.
Still hv alot of things I wanted to do but does not seems to hv time or desire to do it.
Wanted to learning some foreign languages and musical instruments but always ended up watching movies instead of those those language or musical lessons on YouTube. Ha ha ha

To be fair to the youtuber, she never really planned on retiring early. It just kind of happened when her firm pushed her out. So being a bit clueless and trying to make sense of it all is totally understandable. And honestly, for someone who didn’t even plan for early retirement, having 3m sgd saved up is pretty impressive.

Now, if she were a lot closer to 60, that would be a whole different story.
