Hi wanna ask all sifu here some advice. I have an old laptop (not that old) but i check spec is good just the RAM is 4GB. Wanna ask if possible I can upgrade to high RAM for faster process? As now the problem I facing is after awhile sometime its bit laggy (also i have a habit not shut down window, and open quite a few tabs in Explorer).

Apart from my habits, by changing the RAM shall help loosing up the memory and faster operation right?

Sorry been awhile apart from IT knowledge. Hope I get it right. Thanks

Based on your processor model, i assume that laptop is at least 4-5 years old. And during this time SSD drives are not common yet. Manufacturers skipped using SATA SSD for a few years and now M.2 NVME SSD is the new standard.

For your case of laggy overall performance, instead of upgrading ram, i would suggest upgrading the SSD. This has visible performance increase compared to upgrading ram. Hard disk is the one that slows down the overall performance.

My client's company upgraded their banger laptop that has Intel Celeron J processors to SSD, and you can immediately feel the laptop like it was just bought in 2021. Depending on capacity (120GB-2TB) and brand (Adata - Samsung), SATA SSD price can range from RM90 to RM1xxx. Excluding service charges.

No brand was stated. Asus? Lenovo? Acer? HP?

Like I can tell you my office laptop is HP Elitebook 840 G3 as an example.

Yeap one slot only. According to google, performance best at 8GB max.
Nope. 8GB is not the best performance
8GB is the minimum for Windows 10

Also, upgrading RAM wouldn't solve anything, it will just allow you to open more tabs and run more apps in the background
If your laptop is still using HDD, you need to upgrade to SSD as well

And as everyone has said, state the brand and full model number of your laptop. Find these details on your laptop itself, not within Windows
Refrain from posting anything until you answer that question because no one can help you if you refuse to provide that information

Hi Jon,

Based on the hardware documentation below:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobile..._hmm_201504.pdf

Best upgrade option would be to source for a DDR3 SODIMM 8GB stick. Take out the old one and put the new one in.

You may want to consider a SSD upgrade as mentioned by netmatrix and shawty.

Cheers!
