Would like to know the practical way to calculate body fat percentage, no need to be super accurate but knowing the overall/estimated percentage will be really helpful in which stage should I go for (cut or start to gain)

You need the equipment which can measure the fat % like what the other have posted. There is no way to do manual calculation like BMI stuff. I used to have the thought it can be calculated using some math equation but the answer is no. The gym will have the weight measuring device capable to measure the body fat %. I usually measure it when I go to gym.

All the devices that u can buy are not accurate.
Just look at mirror and compare with pictures u find in the net. If have obvious belly fat usually 18% above.. Some ppl keep saying they're 12%~15% cause those device says so. |

12~15% very rip built up already. If device showing 12~15% but don't have visible abs, can through the device into dustbin already.

To get the nearest numbers you need to get those good ones, which cost about RM500~RM1K, they have this thing to hold to measure your whole body. That one also give and take, not 100% accurate.I threw away all these weigh machines by the way, cause it was making me depressed. I just continue with my workout regimes no matter what and recently im starting to see the results, took 5 months of consistency though! And getting rid of the weigh machines help a lot. |

Getting rid of it because you are afraid to face reality you will see that a lot of professionals will tell you to get rid of the weigh machines when you start working out. cause the numbers will fluctuate like crazy and to many people it's discouraging, which it was for me. And i got rid of it and just continued with my workout and take care of my food. This post has been edited by miyakochan89: Oct 7 2021, 10:48 AM |

The digital sensors does not such big error no matter how lousy the machine. |

u need fat caliper and charts. Dont trust the machine that do this at your gym. the problem with those machine is that they passed electrical curent through your body and measure resistance/lag, and compare it to pre calibrated curve.
The problem is the calibration curve is not reliable since different races, people have different fat distribution. Some people have fat accumulation in their belly, while others all through out their skin. Moreover when u exercise more, the electrolyte level in your body changes, so does your body conductivities, which alter the result as well |

One of the machine used by hospitals is Inbody. For normal consumers the model to get is Inbody Scale / H20N.
I'm using this one and I can let you test it if you want. |

Mirror is most accurate lay person can get
All the devices are bullshit. Unless Dexa Scan machine. Just use mirror. I also measure the thickness of my belly fat fold to know if my bodyfat is going up/down. |

Like what other said, all are not accurate even Inbody machines. The most accurate is through autopsy.
