Hi all,

I saw that Honor just launched their updated Magicbook range with the latest AMD 5000 series.

Question - based on the spec and price, is it worth going for the Honor model as opposed to Dell Inspiron 14? They seem to be of comparable price, for the 8GB Ram + 512GB SSD HD. The difference that I could glean from the specs is mainly from Honor having WIFI 6 (Dell doesn't); whereas Dell has preinstalled Windows for Home & Student 2021 (Honor only has the 30-day trial version).

Both look very thin and slim, and they both have 2-year warranty.

Then, there's also their Honor Magicbook Pro 15 , which is also a very very good deal. More RAM and HD, but still on WIFI 5 though. But 16.1" with a very slim profile.

Honor MagicBook Pro - Vega 6 (in Ryzen 5 4600H) will hog about 2GB of the system RAM but at least the ultrabook comes configured with 16GB which is adequate for many purposes. WiFi card can be replaced.

Honor MagicBook 15 AMD - Vega 7 (in Ryzen 5 5500U) seems to have solved RAM issue in Vega 6 but the ultrabook is configured with only 8GB, so you have to close your browser when gaming. Although RAM is dual-channel configuration, they are soldered. At least SSD can be replaced.

Unlike Intel UHD Graphics, the Vega cards can achieve playable >60 frames per second with low to medium settings on many e-sports titles like Valorant, CS:GO and DotA 2. However, don't expect to be very competitive in the first-person shooters because of the 60Hz refresh rate limit of your screen. External gaming monitors with high refresh rate and low response times cost thousands. Need to ask yourself what you are buying this ultrabook for? Should you compensate with a gaming monitor? What are the options available to connect to the monitor? Should you just buy more expensive laptop with RTX 3050 and 165Hz screen instead?
