Hi guys,

I need to go overseas for work. Won't be back for more than 1 year. I want to keep my phone number active.

Currently using Celcom postpaid RM50 per month. This is quite a lot to just throw away while Im gone. Can anyone recommend a way to keep the phone number through cheaper method? I don't mind paying lump sum to keep active.

Last time when I went away to study, Celcom closed my old phone number of 8++ years using cause inactive.

Thanks a lot in advance.

redone...
cheapest is rm8 monthly excluding tax..

i kept 2 numbers using it....

you can just pay more into it..that can last 1 years...it will deduct itself from the surplus

port your celcom postpaid number to prepaid with 1 year validity (or more).

some of them are:

hotlink 365 (rm30/year) https://www.hotlink.com.my/en/plan/prepaid/#two-benefits
tunetalk (rm35/year) https://www.tunetalk.com/my/en/coolplan/sos...e-year-validity
onexox (rm30 for 28 months) https://xox.com.my/one-xox

those are cost for validity - excluding simcard cost (usually around rm10 only).

i exclude unifi bebas coz its need the sim to be active (switch on the sim and use data or make call or send sms, which is not applicable during roaming)

hotlink and tunetalk - u can manage it via app. so u can just reload (rm30/rm35) and buy the 2nd year validity when nearing 1st year expiry date. no need to switch on the sim. even if the sim is missing also ok. when back to malaysia just request replacement sim laugh.gif

Believe you can move from postpaid to prepaid then just top up the minimal amount. Tough luck if your postpaid is under contract

Wow thanks for the options. I think I will go with TuneTalk. Can the SIM card be purchased in physical store? I’m leaving this Saturday. Do I need to visit Celcom to cut their service?

Last time actually i tried this with Celcom switch to Digi. Digi handled everything. I even went to Celcom centre and they said I don’t need to do anything. When I came back from studies, I thought of switching back to celcom. To my surprise they blacklisted the number cause of unpaid bills. When I paid off the bills they straight up cancelled my number and couldn’t get it again.

choose which center is nearest to u.

center is faster in processing the port than dealer.
example maxis @ klcc / pavillion is center, but maxis @ tesco ampang / mahkota cheras is not a center.
can refer here - https://www.maxis.com.my/en/centre/store-locator/

not sure regarding tunetalk. seems can just buy the simcard (any random number) then call them to port/switch?
https://www.tunetalk.com/my/en/switch/portin

better call/chat with them 1st for confirmation @ https://www.tunetalk.com/my/en/help-center/let-us-help

next:
1. check with celcom, ur num got contract or not. if got, tell them want to terminate and pay the penalty fee.
2. check celcom outstanding balance and go pay all (better using celcom app/ celcom website / celcom kiosk instead of m2u etc. coz will reflect on the system onthespot).
2. go to tunetalk/maxis as earliest as u can today and said u want to port/switch from celcom. u will get new sim. hold it 1st. keep using ur celcom sim for now.
3. u will get sms confirmation to port out from celcom after they process the port/switch, pls reply yes to that sms.
4. if all clear, u will get another sms on next 1 or 2 days to confirmed your port is successful and after that ur signal will lost.
5. swap with tunetalk/hotlink sim, should get signal. can throw away the celcom sim.

MNP to Yoodo and pick the SMS plan. RM 3 monthly only.

I'm using this method to keep my MY line at minimal cost. Only need to reload some money into the wallet for auto deduct.

Before back to MY, just remember to change the plan to include calls. If not, u will need to connect the phone to WiFi then only can change the plan. Minor inconvenience.

Not sure whether the Celcom system can "suspend" the account for 1 year duration without any charges.

Else:
Option 1 = MNP-o to XOX PRE-paid non-Black for 28 months SIM validity with certain package(s) subscription.

Option 2 = downgrade to cheapest plan and use auto-debit to pay monthly POST-paid bill.

Option 3 = Rent this number to family members by MNP-o to the cheapest unlimited data for their usage. They will pay the monthly reload and continue to enjoy unlimited data.

Option 4 = downgrade to cheapest POST-paid plan & continue using this number in oversea & claim bill from company...(?)
