Dear sifus, i have my old rig, as such

Intel® Core™ i5-2500K Processor (6M Cache, 3.30 GHz) overclocked to 4.8 GHz | P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 with PCI Express 3.0 | 24X LG DVDRW | 80GB Intel 320 SSD | Enthusiast SeriesTX650W PSU | Cooler Master 690 II Advanced | 8GB G.Skill Sniper 1600 CL9 8GB 1.25V | 2X SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s | XSPC RASA RS240

I normally ise it for work and movies, got a new hd tv...was suddenly had the interest of playing games like the good old days.. which model of gpu that would fit my mobo to play current AAA FPS games? Thanks in advance sifus.

Most newer games' minimum requirement is set at GTX1060 and above.

Though since your CPU is kind of outdated and will bottleneck anything as powerful as 1060 and beyond, I'll suggest you to go with basic low/mid setting card like 1050TI.

Though one warning, current pricings for GPU (even those cheapo entry cards) are too ridiculous to be worth buying, even those 2nd hand or old mining cards. If you happen to find one 1050TI around, it will likely cost more than RM650, and it's hell not worth for the price (at most I'll pay RM550 for it, and that's IF I'm despo).

It’s nowhere here or there.

I’m not too sure if your z68 mobo supporting i7 3770 (the last pinnacle of 1155 socket), but even doing so it’s not gonna be overwhelming improvement either.

Just grab a “reasonably priced” GTX1050TI or GTX1060 and call it a day, live within what your 2500k can push for; save whatever extra for future. Just FYI nowadays, 2nd hand 1050TI around RM700; 2nd hand 1060 3GB around RM800 and 2nd hand 1060 6GB around RM1k+; all are quite ridiculously high for 6+ years out of warranty legacy cards…

A proper system upgrades will cost several times more than what you budgeted, let’s keep them for other years.

p/s: just noticed that your RAM is kind of limited (and single stick?), consider adding another 8GB stick to it, won’t cost too much extra. Also your SSD is likely quite full already so can consider some slight upgrade there too. 2.5” SATA3 drive will do as your mobo don’t have proper NVME M.2 support.

Pretty much all cards inflated 1.5-2x it's worth thanks to this GPU scarcity.

1060 which cost only 1k+ when it's launched 6 years ago is worth the same price in year 2021. During the previous mining crash, miner 1060 goes under RM500 each card...

2060 which cost under RM2k back then now pushed more than RM2k.

Now is the worst time to be in need of GPU. I rather invest in a PS or iGPU than buying into these scalping madness (though I cukur this allow me to let go my old 1060 without depreciation for a practically free ownership of past 6 years sweat.gif )

just wanna let you know that this "desktop customization" section of the forum is about the wallpaper, icons, skins, etc software customization. it's not about the hardware desktop itself. biggrin.gif

Nope, your mobo don’t support DDR4. Just go garage sale and grab another stick of 8GB DDR3 will do, they don’t cost too much nowadays.

As for SSD, since your mobo don’t have NVME m.2 SSD support, just grab a typical 2.5” SATA SSD will do. As more model, just grab one with DRAM cache and 3D NAND. That’s the balance between performance, durability and pricing. For model you can look for Curcial MX500, ADATA SU800, WD Blue or pretty much any Samsung. The price you’re looking is bout RM180 for 240GB drive, with 480GB drive costing bout another RM100-150 on top of that.

Don’t bother running old card in crossfire/SLI, especially since it only have 2GB RAM.

Combining different specs of RAM is always a hit or miss (sometimes the 1Rank or 2Rank also matter despite both similar specs otherwise). If you tried to isolate and install only each of them and the system can work, then it’s certainly compatibility issue dy.

Since your mobo is Z-series which can tune the RAM timing, try and see if that can help (provided you can POST with both RAM installed).

2nd Generation of i5 processor. If you got budget, I suggest you buy a new desktop with atleast 11th generation i5 or AMD Ryzen. But also it depend how you use your desktop. If you just play low end game then it should be fine, you might experience of laggy in performance and loading slow if you playing modern games. Some games now even recommend you to run it on M2 NVME SSD not SATA SSD.
